Entrance Valley of Fire
This truly unique place totals 46,000 acres and is located only 50 to 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas (depending on the route taken), and just east of the Overton Arm of Lake Mead NRA. Valley of Fire is a place of rare beauty to which people have been attracted to for thousands of years. This is evidenced by the large number of Petroglyphs found in several places throughout this park.
The Valley of Fire was once the bottom of a deep ocean basin that eventually to become part of a vast desert which existed about 150 to 180 million years ago.
Vegas,here we come
What a great morning, the hues and colours of the nearby canyon walls are beautiful with their changing tones. We walk across the road do our laundry, have some breakfast and leave Springdale heading towards Vegas via the Valley of Fire and it looks like another warm day ahead us as the scenery starts to change from lush green trees and grass to a dry arid landscape and as we head into the Valley of Fire we are surrounded by rocks of a glorious deep red in colour, some are laced with multi layers of white clay slicing through the red, it looks hot and it is hot! We stop at a rest point to admire the beauty and there are ground squirrels everywhere running around searching for shade, they run in the open from bush to bush and when they get to a bush they lay flat out underneath with legs outspread, only for maybe 10 seconds and then they run to the next bush, they are curious little creatures, so cute & funny.
We now head back to the free-way towards Vegas and as we come over a rise we can't believe what we
are seeing, a huge city of tall buildings sitting in the middle of a valley plateau and we think there must be a fire somewhere because of the smoke haze over the centre, but nope, it's pollution.... incredible! We arrive at the Vdara, we are on the 46 floor and I can't wait to get to our room, I swipe the key card.... nothing, I try again..... Still nothing, we go back down to reception and tell them the key card is not working, they re-configure our key and we go back up, try again..... Still nothing, we go back down again and they send us back upstairs and advis us security will meet us, they check the door, definitely not working, they then call the maintenance man who arrives and changes the battery and we finally get in our room. Reception were very professional and gave us a $50 credit on our tab and it was well worth the wait, an awesome room with a view over Vegas. The room is luxurious and I can't wait to hit the shower! After the shower we go for a stroll to the Belagio Hotel
(connected to the Vdar via walkway) and
the're are people everywhere, we have some dinner and a dabble at the casino and then back to the motel. The view from our room is even more amazing at night, coloured lights everywhere, it looks like Christmas, time for sleep in our luxurious bed …..... "Night all". Weather......... hot, hot, hot!
Accommodation: Vdara Hotel & Spa
2600 W.Harmon Avenue
Las Vegas
Thoughts: This was a nice place to stay, centrally located with easy access to the light rail and the Bellagio and Venetian etc.
Most of the Casinos put on buffet deals and the foods nice, if you love your seafood, you'll love it.
We never ventured to the strip late at night or early morning, but from what we could see and heard from others, Vegas starts out ok each night, but just gets messier as the night goes on.
