So looking over my blogs, I have pretty much focused on my trips throughout Thailand, and not the everyday life. Well, seeing that I've been gone for almost two weeks in the extremem north and south I've forgotten quite a bit. However, there are many pictures that I left out. I'll try to tell a little about each. The first few are simply the amazing flowers we bought at the "flower market." A girl at work took me and my roommates to the market we have long wanted to shop at. I bought a batch of roses (about 50) and its cost 20 baht, aka FIFTY CENTS! sooo cheap and the roses were gorgeous. Megan also bought some, hers were orange so they cost 30 baht, gosh...a whole 75 cents. lol. I didnt take my camera ... read more

Im getting very sad that my trip is winding down, however..it will be very great to see everyone at home! Okay, so the last week has once again been action-packed with new experiences and beautiful scenery. Hopefully, I'll remember the highlights enough so you can get the basic idea. After returning from the south, we had enough time to meet the new KEI students that just arrived here and take them out in the city then sleep for a few hours before catching a very early flight to Chang Rai, one of Thailand's northmost cities. From there we went to the Queen's palace which was not all that impressive, but she had a HUGE garden with millions of beautiful plants and flowers. All of this with gorgeous mountains in the backdrop. Then we went to have ... read more

Sorry to everyone who wasn't sure whether I was alive or not, I've been traveling for the past few days and haven't been able to get online. Speaking of traveling, I'm leaving in the morning to head up north to Chang Mai so I will once again be out of reach.... hehe. So last week, me and all the roommates took a 12 hour bus ride south to Phuket. This might sound like a very long ride, however, most of it was overnight and therefore we slept through it. Also, bus agencies are really nice and give you snacks, pillows, blankets, etc. Almost like you are on a plane, really. We then arrived in Phuket (thailand's most popular tourist destination) at around 8 in the morning. We checked in to our hotel and spent the rest ... read more

I love Thailand! I just got back from the best weekend I've had yet. This weekend was the holiday of Buddha's enlightenment so we got off Monday and Tuesday. On friday night, me, my roommates, and a bunch of other international kids went to a place called RCA. It is a street lined with dance clubs. It was so fun hanging out with kids from Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and of course U.S. The next day we spend shopping at JJ Market and I finally got the rest of everyone's souveniers..I think. Then we also went to Siam Paragon for the sole purpose of getting Subway. Sunday morning we woke up, headed to the train station, and took a very scenic four hour ride to Kanchanaburi (north of Bangkok). I've never been on a long train trip ... read more

Aloha everyone. Just got back from my first island experience in Thailand! What better way to end a week of workin at the clinic then to skip off to an island for the weekend?! We all got off for the day on Friday and left early to make the three hour drive and half hour boat trip to Ko Samet Island. The nine of us (me, my roommates, our friend Sukaman, and three people from KEI) took this awesome little boat ride that felt more like a roller coaster. Then we got to the island, had to wade through the ocean with our bags, and then stumbled onto the sand. Samet is a pretty big island on the Gulf of Thailand, dedicated to tourism, mostly foreigners. It was crazy walking down the beach, almost all Western ... read more

Hey Everyone! I've been meaning to write more just never seem to find the time. This past weekend we ventured to our first movie since arriving in Thailand. Very close to where I work their is a place called Central Pinklao. It has an amazing mall plus theatre. We saw "Silent Hill" which was gratefully in English with Thai subtitles. Oh yea, get this: it was four american dollars. woo hoo! Also, I had only heard of this tradition until the movie; before certain events like movies, athletic events, and so on, they play a film clip and national song to honor his majesty, the king. Everyone stands up in complete silence for the duration of the heart-warming film. It was pretty cool. I couldn't quite picture Americans supporting our President in the same way...too bad. ... read more

Hey everyone! Sorry I havent written much lately, I've been too busy! My internship is taking up lots of time. However, it is more than worth it. I have met so many awesome Thai students and Physical therapists. Each week my schedule changes and I shadow someone different. This week I work at Siririja Hospital in the mornings and go to Pinklao OPD in the afternoons. At Sirirja, I am in the Acute Stroke Unit and Spinal Cord Injury department. In Pinklao I am in the Orthapedic dept. The only thing that kinda stinks about my internship is in order to get there in the mornings I take two or three buses and have to allow at least an hour and a half. So.....i leave my "Green Park" apartment at 6 30ish. Way before any of ... read more

I'm sure none of you would ever expect this from me... but the first free weekend, just guess where I went?! yea, the beach. It was incredible. We took a three hour bus ride to "Huan Hin Beach" The ride there and back cost 7dollars. Yea, doesnt get much better than that. We stayed in a family guest house/hotel. They took such good care of us. I continue to be amazed of the hospitality of Thais. Well the beach was very pretty, but the water was what I loved. The ocean felt like bath water it was so warm. I couldnt believe it. We spend hours and hours just bobbing around. These random locals gave us a free ride on a banana boat, so that was exciting. Then we went out to their night market. It ... read more

Wow, people in Thailand really really really love their king. Yesterday me and my roomies went downtown to check out the festivities for the king's 60th anniversary holiday. There were like a billion people there. No joke, a billion. Well, all I know is I've never seen that many people in one spot in my entire life. There was a parade, speeches (no clue what about), then a candle lighting (yea, I was kinda scared about the billion people ALL having their own candle and not burning down the city...) then fireworks. Oh yea, did I mention about twenty random Thai people off the streets took pictures with us!? It was hilarious. So I'm officially in photo albums all over Asia, haha. They seriously just love foreigners here. After all of the ceremonies, they had ... read more

Sorry this isn't very up-to-date. It took a while to get my computer hooked up to the wireless network! I miss everyone at home so much and it has only been a week and a day! But so far on my trip.... I went on a canal tour on this crazy small boat with my four other roommates and our guide, Boon. He is extremely cool and is only 19 so basically doesn't go by the rules the organization gives him, nor does he try and stay in budget when he takes us out. So this of course makes everything way more fun haha. But back to the canal, we stopped off at a few different places along the way. One was a Lotus garden. Very very pretty. Another stop was a fruit farm and this ... read more
