- From: Day 28 - Veracruz and Boca del Rio
Hi Karin, I have definitely thought about doing pen-pals for our school. The only problem so far has been that the school we visited is a middle school, and the other schools are out of session. But hopefully in the next cities I'll have a better chance of getting contacts. Also, I asked Ms. Pule about pen-pal information while she is in Argentina. Take care, Renato

I have heard that Veracruz is a great place to visit. It is good to hear that you had an opportunity to meet with some students and teachers. It sounds like you had a good time getting to know them and being able to share cultural knowledge with each other. Have fun in Oaxaca, can't wait to read what comes next.

penpals - From: Day 28 - Veracruz and Boca del Rio
You may have already thought of this, but maybe it would be fun if you found a class or a school that would like to be like a sister school or something with San Juan, if you think that would be appropriate, and the kids could communicate with a particular class and learn more about Mexican culture, etc...and vice versa. Have you visited any elementary schools yet? Have fun in Oaxaca. Love those city names!

Hi Ms. Camacho, I feel the same way. I had no idea how much of our energy comes from Canada. Also I completely agree with you on traveling. You can learn so much from it. Thanks for your comment! Take care, Sr. Reina

WOW! - From: Day 16 - Arrival in Fort McMurray
It is hard for me to take in all the information that you are able to share here on your blog, I can't imagine all the information your brain is trying to retain. Well, I was very intrigued by the information about the oil. I had no idea the we had a source so close to us, I feel like we have always been taught to believe that it comes from overseas...its amazing what a trip or some research can teach you.

Hi Mike, Thank you for all of the information you guys gave me. It has been a huge benefit to have some idea of what to expect. I actually just got to Mexico City last night, and head to Puebla tomorrow. Send any suggestions for places to see. I will let Jacques and Jorge know you say hello. Take care, Renato

Hi Karin, Sadly after three years of French in middle school and high school, my French is enough to ask for something to eat. At least I could get ice cream! As far as sending students to study, I think it would be a great place. However, I would definitely recommmend Quebec City over Montreal. Quebec City is like a small French town, and everything is in French. It would really force a student to speak French. Montreal, on the other hand, is a large cosmopolitan city where everyone speaks both English and French, so it would be easier to revert into English. Hope this helps. Take care, Sr. Reina

Quebec - From: Day 9 - Quebecois
Fascinating! Thanks for the insight into the laws there. I had no idea. Do you speak French? If not, I'm sure you have picked up quite a bit while you are there. Would that be a good place for an exchange student to go to learn French while in high school?

Hi Eve, Thanks for your message and well wishes. The traditional foods in Canada vary from region to region, but to give you an idea...In Quebec I had chicken baked in a pastry crust and served in a cream sauce. AS for dessert, in Quebec there were many things with maple on them. Take care, Ren

Thanks for taking us all along - From: Day 10 - Arrival in MONTREAL
Wow, it feels like we're right there with you! Well, not quite, we are missing all the good food and the beautiful sights, but other than that...thanks for taking the time to share your trip with everyone. I'm sure it is not easy. We hope your vertigo is all gone. Isabella leaves next Tuesday for Germany and I wish she could do a blog...maybe I will try to set one up for her. That would be fun. Stay healthy and safe. I was in Montreal in 1976...can you believe it! That was a long time ago! Take care. Karin

Hi Brinell, So it turns out that historically there were no Black Native Americans. One professor said that there was not a very large slave population as there was in the U.S. This could be a great topic to do further research on. Take care, Ren

Hi Melissa, Tell Myles I said thank you for thinking of me. I will post the picture in my classroom when we get back. As far as restaurants...well yesterday I went to an Aboriginal Restaurant where they served food such as buffalo, potato cakes, some local fish, and a rice pudding with wild rice. Tomorrow I will be going to a Quebecois restaurant here in Quebec City. I`ll let you know how it goes. Hope your having a great summer! Sr. Reina

Hey! Sounds like you've been really busy. One thing I thought about while reading your blog is how little we know about our neighbor to the north. As educators we must expend our practice to be able to educate our students in this growing world. I hope you get great info on bilingual ed while you're there. I'd also like to see pics if you took any. The museums sound great.
