We departed Cairns by 7:30 am heading north on the scenic coastal road. The Captain Cook Highway snakes along the shoreline past secluded beaches and rainforest-clad mountains with views out over the Coral Sea to the Great Barrier Reef. Our first stop of the day was Mossman Gorge. The clear mountain river cuts through thick rainforest and tumbles over boulders on its journey to the sea. Our second stop was at the Daintree Wildlife Sanctuary where we had a coffee and cookies. I had the chance to cuddle a really cute kangoroo named Jake. After that we crossed the Daintree River on the Cable Ferry. We stopped at the Alexandra Range Lookout, which gives you a bird's eye view of the Daintree River, Port Douglas and, on a clear day, landmarks south of Cairns. After the
