Cape Trib Day Tour

We departed Cairns by 7:30 am heading north on the scenic coastal road. The Captain Cook Highway snakes along the shoreline past secluded beaches and rainforest-clad mountains with views out over the Coral Sea to the Great Barrier Reef.

Our first stop of the day was Mossman Gorge. The clear mountain river cuts through thick rainforest and tumbles over boulders on its journey to the sea.

Our second stop was at the Daintree Wildlife Sanctuary where we had a coffee and cookies. I had the chance to cuddle a really cute kangoroo named Jake. After that we crossed the Daintree River on the Cable Ferry. We stopped at the Alexandra Range Lookout, which gives you a bird's eye view of the Daintree River, Port Douglas and, on a clear day, landmarks south of Cairns. After the Lookout we experienced the Marrdja Boardwalk where we saw trees which are millions of years old. Then we had lunch at Cape Tribulation and took a few minutes walking along the beach.

Our next stop was at the Daintree Ice Cream Company where we had Mango, Wattleseed, Jakefruit and Cranberry ice cream. Personally I liked Jakefruit the most even though I've never heard of this fruit before.

After that we had a cruise on the Daintree River. There we saw a babycrocodile, a snake and even two stingrays jumping out of the water. On our way home we were driving through the picturesque tourist town of Port Douglas. After this exciting day we arrived back in Cairns at about 7 pm.
