Sorry the pictures turned out super blurry. I wouldn't have posted them but it took so long to upload them, I figured what the heck. Hopefully my next attempt at pictures will turn out better. Anywho on with the story . . . So we spent a couple days in Manang eating yak steaks, watching movies in barns and learning about the dangers of H.A.F.E. Jules wasn't feeling too good the first day we got there so we decided to wait a day and see if she improved. Our second night in Manang, Jules got really light headed, so bad that John and I had to help hold her up on the way to the altitude clinic in town. The doctor checked her out and told her to come back the next morning. She did and ... read more

Pictures for part 1 of the trek

Published: April 9th 2008Asia » Nepal » Annapurna

Here are some pictures from the first part of the trek. If the quality isn't great it's because i stole them off a website. Yes, they are pictures from my trip but they are all ones that other people took because my camera had died and of course it decided to die the first day of the trek so i had to carry the stinking thing the whole time! All of that extra weight and the stupid thing didn't even work! The connection here is super slow so please excuse the super lame titles of most pictures and lack of text, just appreciate the pretty snow covered mountains instead. Ok, it's lunch time. More stories from Nepal later. Don't worry about me though. I don't know what's getting out on the news about the elections in ... read more

Greetings from Nepal! I've been here quite awhile and haven't blogged but now you get a super long and oh so exciting blog to read because of it. So here we go . . . Jules and I flew out from Australia way back in March around St. Pattie's Day. We hung out in Kathmandu with our friends from Thailand, Rich and Charlie, while we bought some gear and got some trekking permits sorted out. Kathmandu is a gear junkie's heaven. The tourist area is like a giant outdoor REI with tons of fake North Face, Mummut, etc. gear just busting out of every little shop. And if you are willing to work for it, you can get some pretty sweet fake gear for pennies compared to what you would pay at home. Some of the ... read more

Ok, ok, so I haven't updated my blog in a shamefully long time and somehow I've magically turned up in Australia without even giving you guys a full report on Thailand. Opps and opps again! Sadly, you'll just have to take a rain check on Thailand for the time being and instead, settle for hearing about mine and Jules misadventures across the great state of Victoria, Australia. Let's start the blog with the Aussie/American English barrier that we seem to encounter more often than not. Yes, it maybe called "English" in general, but in reality, it is two completely different languages. Cookies are biscuits, flip-flops are thongs, bell peppers are capsicum, gas is petrol, the hood of a car is a bonnet, the trunk of a car is the boot and beer is a frothy. We ... read more

So once we left Muang Ngoi we headed off to Loung Prabang to spend the night as well as have some AMAZING coffee and chocolate chip cookies (almost like momma makes) at JoMa Bakery. So yummy! The next morning me, Mark as well as Gal and Yael (a couple we met from Israel) jumped in a minibus for Vang Vieng. It was suppose to take 5 hours, but when your minibus is "bad" it takes much much much longer than that. We ended up broken down on the side of the road many times on the trip and finally they had to call for another bus to pick us up. My favorite out of the dozen or so stops we took was when our drive made us all get out of the bus, told us 10 ... read more

Since Laos has been so amazing, I haven't been able to update my blog lately. Sorry. However, we have decided to kick back for a week in a little town in Northern Thailand called Pai so I figure I can get you all up to speed by the time I leave here. So here it goes . . . After Mark and I left Loung Nam Tha, we headed off to hang out in some little towns on the Nam Ou River. Our first night was spent in Noung Khaiw which was a nice place to recover from 10 hours in a bus or tuk-tuk which even included little car sick children. The next day, we got up, packed our bags and headed to the boat dock so we could catch a slow boat upstream to ... read more

and then the internet died. So I've been having so much fun here and I was happily typing it all up for you for the last hour, but the net died and I lost it all. Usually, it auto saves but this time it didn't. I'll re-write it and get it up within the next week or two. We head up north tomorrow on a two day boat ride and then are going to live in a treehouse with monkeys for 3 days so I should have some great stories coming your way. Off to pack my bag. Miss you all!... read more

So, we finally got all of our passport/visa stuff taken care of and after a delayed plane flight to Kunming, my bag getting lost by the airline, a 5 hour delayed sleeper bus departure and one bouncy night spent on a bus, I'm finally got of China!!!!!! It's not that I didn't enjoy China, I was just very ready to get to some place a little more calm and Laos fits that perfectly. As I said, our bus leaving Kunming was delayed for 5 hours which was simply annoying because everytime I would inquire as to when the bus was going to show up, they would say "In 12 minutes", ok, wait, wait, wait, still no bus. Ask again, same answer. Finally they gave us a time, but it was a good hour of constant asking ... read more

So I've been traveling through China for quite awhile and many exciting things have happened. However, they decided to re-do the blog website over the past 2 weeks making it almost impossible to access my account. Well, the website is prettier now and I can finally finish updating you on what I was doing two weeks ago. I swear, at some point, I'll actually write about something that happened in the last 48 hours instead of stuff that happened weeks ago. I started this on Nov. 20 Anywho, I started off in Shanghai a few days ago with Jules and two of the guys I met in Mongolia, Mark and Matt (turns out we are like four peas in a pod and have been traveling together ever since we all met on the White Lake trip ... read more
