Amazing Thanks so much for that Shelley-Ann. Great writing. At times I felt like I was there with you. Also had a few chuckles. I think you may have been a little depressed on your first day ing BJ?? Glad the trip ended on a better note than it started.
Yep - subway was cheap! But you had to know where to get off and what exit to take. I got out at the wrong exit once and ended up far away from where I was supposed to be.
Preferences Interesting that you liked the Forbidden City more than the Summer Palace -- I was the complete opposite. Maybe because it was SOOOO hot when I visited, and the Summer Palace had water around it (which made me feel cooler)? I don't know. I do however fully understand about the people pushing and the rudeness. (In face, I laughed when I read that.) Glad to hear that the stink-eye and the shoving back didn't cause anyone permanent damage. As for the subway, I took it when I was there too. Not so bad! Definitely cheaper than a taxi. Wish the TTC was about the same price! (28 cents about right???)
The camera mall Actually, I went to a different camera mall, one on the top floor of a building where all they sold was tea. The polarizer was only $16 (not B+W, obviously).
Beautiful night shots! I wonder if the camera fair you went to is the same place I went to? However where I went to buy my 72mm CP filter for cheap was in a camera mall -- hundreds of stores that sold equipment.... I bet the location is still in the guidebook!
Your Tianmmen Square night shots look fantastic. I only ever got there in daylight -- the night shots look so much more impressive! And please tell me you didn't actually eat any of that street meat.... :S
Awesome Looks like you had an awesome day for the Wall. Great photos too! Did you see any of those crazy vendors lugging coolers of cold water up and down the wall, just waiting to find a desperate tourist to sell it to?
Too funny! The opera sounds hilarious! Such a convoluted plot and really ridiculous! Sorry to hear that you're having a harder time in Beijing; I remember being stared at because of my blond hair and physique. Not fun. I hope that you have a great time at the Great Wall tomorrow, and happy birthday! Take lots of photos, and don't let the vendors sell you anything overpriced. Cut down their prices to a fraction of what they asked and be prepared to walk away. :)
The humidity has dropped - Thank God!! One of the good sides to the Typhoon is that the humidity has dropped. It was horrendous. Luckily, I have air conditioning in my room.
Great Photos! Beautiful night photos of Hong Kong from the Peak! Sounds like you're having a great time, despite the humidity. Hopefully a/c is easy to find....
Asian bathrooms Glad to hear that you arrived safely! Don't worry about wetting the floor in the bathroom. I don't think you're meant to keep it dry. Hope you brought a pair of flip-flops or something! Looking forward to hearing more about your travels as you go. :)
