The one that maybe got away... Thanks for looking guys! I'll keep your cryptic clues in mind as we walk around District 7 - pubbish and on a corner ;) And I've jotted down Instant for a late night drink :)
Just re-read this... ...for inspiration! Sounds like you stayed in District 7? Any chance you remember the name of the restaurant you had your fave Hungarian meal at? :)
Damn our bad memories That was beers, and beers ago. We have just poured over the google map of Budapest and found the spot where we thought it was and we came up with "the slang pub", which confused us completely because that just doesn't sound like where we ate. We thought it was on a corner, and it was pubbish, but the slang pub seems to just serve mega greasy burgers, so we are now completely stumped. The restaurant we ate at was in district 7 and we were staying in district 6 (I think) and we had a bit of a walk to get to it, but past that we cannot remember, sorry. I wish we were better at jotting details like you guys, I think we spend way too much time drinking when we travel and therefore cannot remember.

Rome provides a great ending to any adventure It takes weeks to absorb all you've seen and done. Time to reflect is around the corner. One morning you'll be up and it will cross your mind that you need to begin planning the next adventure. So many amazing things have happen over the past months. You've certainly inspired us to want to get back out there. Although I must admit we are not sure we want to do the really long trips anymore. We will see what the future holds. We are finding that we enjoy the 2 to 3 month trips best. Rome has so much to offer you could stay for a long time and only scratch the surface. Glad you had some new shoes and haven't fallen down any steps lately or had any other illnesses. Thank you for allowing us to follow along. We enjoyed it immensely.
Rome provides a great ending to any adventure Unless we win a large sum of money, this will be our last large trip for a long time. Looking at settling down for a while and getting some dogs and trying to work out how to earn money again. Short 4-6 week holidays may be on the horizon which I think we will enjoy more. Presently enjoying having the time to read other blogs and looking forward to your next adventure. Thanks for riding along in the backseat and not screaming at the driver and navigator when they started to lose their minds. Thanks heaps
The joys of Italy Sorry your boots didn't make it as you are almost home. Once a town hits the TV it can change over night. You may be right about that program being old. Happy, happy anniversary! I'm glad your first impressions change and you ended up finding it a breath of fresh air.
The joys of Italy Weird sensation when you hit a town expecting/craving one thing and get something completely different. Can really recommend Matera as it is sensational (and is the Cultural City of Europe 2019), but is a bit of a tourist trap.
Scratching the surface We would love to walk these streets and explore the history. It is always so wonderful when you end up staying some place with an amazing view or rooftop. How wonderful. Sorry to hear that Scott missed an opportunity to play the air guitar. So many memories of the strong Italian coffee. We hope to go back to Italy soon. We have not been to this location yet. You've moved it up on our list. Life is too short to drink bad wine. Great blog.
Scratching the surface As you well know, there are just so many fantastic places to visit in Italy that it is very hard to short list. For us Pompeii was up near the top and for Shelley a revisit to Naples was at the top. Not sure if we will get back to Italy (sure hope so) and if we do we will be back at Naples, just love the place to bits. Thanks heaps.
Here's to a fantastic journey! Can't believe it's your last blog of this journey already! Absolutely amazed that you were so up to date with posting all the blogs! Lots to learn still... Thanks for taking me along and sharing all the tips and info... Loved your honesty and fantastic sense of humour as well! Really enjoyed reading your blogs. And what a great place to finish your journey! I went to Rome in high school with a school trip - Vatican, including the mass with Emperor Penguin Nr 1 - I'm Polish after all, 20 or so churches and all the 'attractions' in two days... think I might need to go again! Now at least I'll have all the info that I need, thanks for sharing! And welcome back home :)
Here's to a fantastic journey! Thanks, it certainly has been a bit more of an effort getting the blog out this time, but it would have been impossible if we had a small child with us and been with family. Ending in Rome was a chance thing and we were so glad that we could end in such a fantastic city, I sure hope you get there on this trip, as we would love to read what you think. Happy safe travels.
Wow! What a long and amazing trip it was. Congratulations on an epic and surely memorable adventure. We loved following along and will miss your frequent updates. Glad you travelled safely and shared so many great stories with everyone. Welcome home and enjoy your rest. You certainly deserve it!
Wow! Thanks heaps for not only following but also for trailblazing ahead of us and giving us so much good advice. You have both been on the road for a long time now and know how incredible as well as how tiring that can be. Glad to be home at the moment but that might change by next week, actually went shopping today and had to stop in front of a travel agents to check out the cost of flights - cannot help myself. Will continue to follow your amazing travels, stay safe.
A lot happy, but a little sad too... Day 284! I read this blog with a small cloud of 'impending ending' over my head, but I'm so happy that you had such fabulous travels (hope Phuket wasn't too feral). Thanks heaps for the humour, honesty and depth of information you shared with us on this trip. Hope everything is ok with the families at home, and that your re-entry into reality is gentle. As I've said before, if you guys are ever down this way, let us know and we'll make a list of churches for Scott to visit (the longest continuously running catholic church in Australia is only 20mins from our place!) :) Take care guys, and welcome back home xx
A lot happy, but a little sad too... Day 284! Thanks guys for coming on the journey with us, having someone in the back seat giving us encouragement rather than saying "are we there yet?" helped us keep going and blogging it. When we get around to heading to the apple isle we will take you up on that offer as it would be great to share a laugh and a drink. As for the church I will only enter it if you can cover up all the paintings of Mary with the baby Jesus as I am still a bit twitchy about that one. We are with Shelleys Mum for a couple of months to help her through an operation but hopefully in the new year will be back up at our home in Mooney Mooney so if you are heading our way we do have a spare room and a club within walking distance and no churches. Stay in touch.
Loving the memories! Venice is beautiful, over run by tourists for most of the time however worth the visit. So glad you got to see it Scotty and Shelly, revisit it. Great pizza! Where are the pigeons?
Loving the memories! Thanks for the memory hit for Shelley she had forgotten about the plagues of pigeons. Hardly saw any this time - perhaps the tourists are eating them on those pizzas. Couldn't cope with the tourist hordes in Prague but somehow didn't seem to bother me in Venice, perhaps the place is magical!
Awwwwhhhh!!! Hey guys xx, dido! How great a time we had together, and we saw some of the most amazing creations of mother nature, how good are you pic's of the caves though??? Like wow!!! Mine were shit in comparison. Funny sitting here at home now and reading and reliving....so glad we had such a special moment in time together....and that the love in Slovenia found your hearts. See you at Christmas.xx
Awwwwhhhh!!! Our time with you in Slovenia is so special to us and it is a memory we will cherish for a long time - will have to do it again someday. And cave photos are tricky things but you did notice how many photos Shelley was taking - hundreds, so we had a few more to choose from. Will be home soon.
