On the second day we drove into Maine, and our first stop was York Harbor, Maine. Here we saw the Nubble Lighthouse. It was great to just slowly drive up the coast, and the further north we went the more beautiful the coast became. We were moving away from larger population centers. We continued following Route 1N, but we detoured on Route 27S and ate lunch on Southport Island, which is off a penninsula 10 miles off Route 1. The town was called Boothbay, and the restaurant was Robinson's restaurant and pub. There were lobster traps just outside the door, so we knew it was going to be good food. At this point, we ate our first Maine Lobster. When they brought us the lobster, they forgot to bring us the butter, but we began eating ... read more

Our trip started with a drive through upstate New York. The first stop was a Lake at Harriman State Park. It was a nice little place to walk around and take some pictures. After the park we drove up the Hudson River Valley. There were lots of small winding roads with plenty of colorful trees. Not many places to stop on those small roads, but there was a pretty good lookout point. After we entered Vermont, we stopped for lunch at Vine and Branches. Of course we had to have hot Vermont Apple Cider - the best I have ever had. Our next stop in Vermont was in Bennington. This small town had a huge monument to Colonel Seth Warner who, during the revolution, fought the British with volunteer militia from MA, VT, and NH. As ... read more

Here are pictures from our trip to the finger lakes over the fall. We first went up to Shawn's grand father's place in Erin and then drove up to Ithaca and the surrounding finger lakes. My parents were visiting and we stopped at several wineries. We found hot wine at one of the vineyards, we had not had it since we were in France. We then stumbled upon Tunkhanncock falls. It was unbelievable with the leaves changing around it. We also showed my parents around Ithaca. We drove around the Cornell Campus. We love Ithaca. Until we went to Vermont, we used to talk to moving to Ithaca. It is a small yet progressive college town. It has been described by some writers as Greenwich Village without Manhattan. ... read more

North America » United States » Maryland » Baltimore » Inner Harbor October 9th 2010

These are pictures from the fall when parents came to town. We went to Baltimore for the day and toured the inner harbor. I think it is a very underrated area. We had lunch at Phillips Seafood. I had not had Maryland style crabs since I was a kid. Not sure if I am really a fan. We then walked along the harbor and took a boat tour. We could see the Domino Sugar sign. Very neat. We then went to a section of the harbor called Fells Point. It had streets with brown stones and cobble stone streets. There were neat little places to eat and cute little shops. It looked like a little New York right on the Ocean. I definitely want to go back and spend more time there. ... read more
