Today was Elephant day! It was quite incredible. We arrived at the elephant camp in the morning at around 9:30. Even driving down the path to the Elephant camp there were people riding elephants, trotting along the road. Once in the camp we were introduced to baby elephants and their mothers (little ones, although they were as tall as I am)! The smallest one wrapped his trunk around my arm and tried to nibble on my arm. We went to watch an elephant show where the elephants would pose with us for photos and perform tricks, such as painting and playing soccer. First day in Thailand! The land is beautiful, the people are lovely! We met with our Thai buddies at the airport and drove together to their school. We struggled through conversations with Google Translate and their understanding of English. I feel bad that I do not know any more Thai than sawaatdee kah! They helped us up to our rooms, and shared some of the most delicious fruit I have ever eaten: dragonfruit, clementines, and bananas! They told us the names in Thai, and all had a laugh at our poor pronunciations. My Thai buddies told me about some of their favorite foods, including some kind of spicy papaya salad, which they said they both love.
