Everything is really going great so far. Day one we left valencia, and motored our way out to sea. at around 2 we put up the sail and motor sailed our way to denia. the wind never really picked up enough to just sail, but it was nice to get a feel for how to raise and lower the sail and what its like using it. we parked in denia for the night, i made fajitas for the crew and we had a pleasant evening. the next day we left at around 8am and motor our way around the head land [View Full Entry]

the planned departure date is tomorrow morning at around 8am. thus this was my last nite at the hostel for this evening ill be sleeping on the boat itself to make for and early escape. im really excited for this chance to learn from some truley seasoned sailors. sailing is something ive had on my list of things to learn, if not only for the day when the great flood returns, this time less by gods wrath and more by global warming. this morning im attempting to lighten the load of my pack, so as its size may condense as well. Ok heres the story. ive taken a position. i wont describe it as a job because the is no monetary compensation. Ive joinded the crew of a sailboat headed from valencia, spain around gibralter, up through portugal, past france and over to the UK. its a long trip, and may take as long as a month to make. the real highlights are free room and board while on the boat, a free boat tour up the atlantic coast, and free sailing instruction from the mechanics, helming, and navigating. I thought barcelona would be a good place to search for a job, but i wasnt really enjoying the prospect of real job type job. i thought maybe i could find a resort to work at like in mexico. just some dumb job that might provide room and board with a bit of cash on top of it. barcelona is certainly not the place for this kind of work. though a beautiful city, the seaport is a more developed metropolis than a beach goers lair. so, i resolved to head south this evening towards valencia and se what type of jobs [View Full Entry]

Yes sir, i made it. running with the bulls. ive been dreaming about this for years and now ive done it. I got there just in time to make the opening ceremonies. A big parade with lots of revelers. the streets are paked for the length of the day. Sangria flowing like water. One hell of a party. Fireworks blast through the sky hourly, while marching bands and iconic parades press through the masses. Ive now just made it to istanbul. 12 hour overnite bus and my bum is killing me. Lots to see and do here, im up now at 4 in the morning to get a good jump on things. i want to get out there before every thing fills with people. On todays agenda is the grand bazaar, blue mosque, and hagia sofia. Also, any others i stumble upon along the way.
