Siem Reap has felt a bit less crazy than Thailand. The streets are not as packed and the people seem just as friendly. We've spent a day just relaxing by the pool and went for a pub crawl last night with a bunch of people from all over the world. It was $10 which got you a free shirt, a free drink at every bar and some games and prizes. Us Canadians were champions at every game we played. I won a coin game and got to participate in a beer chugging game which I also won. I won a 26 of whiskey but I didn't drink it and just shared it with everyone at the bar. Dusty and I teamed up to beat the resident Foosball champion and his partner too. Ended the night with ... read more

Take the train they said.... it will be fun, you can see the jungle. Haha ya it was a dark sleepless 15 hour trek. Couldn't see anything and too loud and rough to sleep. This travel day was not the most fun haha. Took a plane from Bangkok to Siem Reap where we have a nice hotel with a beautiful pool to get some energy back.... read more

I have fallen a bit behind on blogging so I'll just do some highlights. We went to an elephant sanctuary and it was one of the best days ever. The elephants are such amazing loving creatures. We got to feed them, make them their natural medicine to help their digestion, and wash them. They get right into the river with us and laid down so we could scrub them. They said when the elephants arrived they had worms under their skin they had to pop out like zits everyday. Lots of elephant places use plastic brushes to scrub them and the worms keep coming back. There they took a vine, split it into pieces then smashed them to make them soft. When you soak them in the water they foam up naturally and get soapy. Apparently ... read more

Today our great bnb host sky took us on an adventure to the temple Doi Suthep. We traveled there in the back of their truck and stopped at a few view points for pictures. It was pretty packed with tourists but was very beautiful. ... read more

Traveling the Thai way

Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang Mai November 21st 2016

We had one relaxing, boring day around our hostel so I blended the days. Is crazy how markets pop up in different parts of the city. Today we went to a new air bnb. It is adorable, Trigo house. The hosts are absolutely fantastic and helpful and it is one of the coolest fun houses I've ever seen. There is a little swing inside, really cool design features aND an adorable little puppy named Belly. Had some fun sitting around a table with some people from China, France, UK, and USA. We ended the night with heading to a lady boy show with our new friends from around the world and what a show that was. Sorry for the bad photo quality... read more

Such a cool city this Chiang Mai is. There is a different sort of market around every block. Lots of sketchy electrical work around the city. We checked into a hostel for about $3.80 each a night. Mostly just walked around the city today. Another "taking it easy day" of walking 23 km. Legs are now jello. ... read more

Another 30km walking day in 30 degree weather. Went to a temple again, only Dusty got to go inside. No women allowed, and apparently it was mind blowing inside. Saw some animals and ate the best Mexican food of our lives. Who would have thought we would the best Mexican restaurant in Chiang Mai. Wow were our feet sore by the end of the day however it made the foot massage glorious. ... read more

Got up bright and early and flew to Chiang Mai. Oh wow do we love it here. The vibe is just amazing. People are great, food is tasty (and cheap), no complaints! Walked from the airport into the city and explored around until we found a hotel for the next couple nights, then continued to explore some more. Met some very helpful tourists who went out of their way to give us a map and some advice on where to go and set us up with a discounted Tuk-Tuk (3-wheeled taxi mixed with motorcycle cart). Went to two temples briefly already, although they were winding down for the night already so we couldn't stay long. One temple was the only silver temple in the world. Absolutely breath taking. We ended our day by hanging out in ... read more

Pretty relaxing day. Not a whole lot to report but just being lazy bums around the pool. Got some cross stiching done in the sun, working on a maple leaf to give to a monk as tribute. Watched the sunset and packed up to head to Chiang Mai. ... read more
