MMMMMmmmmmmmm how do I describe Pushkar, well for a start alcohol, meat and eggs are all banned and we are here for 2 days - did I mention alcohol was banned by the way, just thought I’d mention it again incase you missed it… The best way I can describe Pushkar is too try and imagine Byron Bay in Australia and remove alcohol and add religion - a lot of religion, and of course shops and more shops... There's definately also a real hippy feel about the place anyway which is pretty cool, one of the things to do in Pushkar (which doesn't involve drinking of course), is watching the sunset over the lake which was absolutely beautiful and definately worth doing, as for what else to do in Pushkar, did i mention there are shops ... read more

On the way to Udaipur we had a rest day at Ranakpur as the journey was too long for one day and guess what there is to see in Ranakpur - you guessed it - temples. I feel bad saying it but we are definitely getting templed out which is a shame as each one is very beautiful and different. Once again in true backpacker style the hotel at Ranakpur was very nice, I could definitely get used to room service and swimming pools that’s for sure. For the James Bond fans out there Udaipur is where the movie Octopussy was filmed all those years ago when sky blue safari suits were in fashion - go on Roger. The most popular tourist attractions are of course the beautiful lake palace and the city palace - as ... read more

Well at least I now know where those baggy pants got there name - welcome to Jodhpur, not only home to baggy pants but of course more temples and forts… First of all we toured around Jodphur fort which overlooks the old town, the fort itself was very impressive and has apparently never been breached although there are several cannon ball marks so at least someone tried. From the top of the fort the views were fantastic, especially of the old town which is painted blue to try and keep the occupants cool - and they need all the help they can get a it's pretty darn hot and it's not even summer. While we were touring the fort we noticed that they did evening meals so we made reservations for that night and toured around ... read more

So rats to Bikaner and we head off once again on to the unknown, or to be more precise, what’s unknown could be just around the corner... One thing you do see traveling this way is the absolute poverty of the smaller villages and I just can’t understand how they survive. One thing that amazes myself and Suzanne is that you'll see someone in the absolute middle of no where quite content either working away or walking somewhere - and there's nothing (and I mean nothing) for miles, so where are these people going or where have they been - mind blowing... A few villages later and quite a few hours later we arrive just outside Jaislemer for a camel safari which includes a ride into the desert as well as spending a night below the ... read more

Yeehaaa - The adventure begins as we set off at out of Delhi at the speed of a relaxed snail and into the rush hour traffic... How busy and how loud - wow, through the noise we learn our drivers name is Harish and he likes Indian Music - I felt like I was in UK curry house and asked for 2 lamb Buna’s, anyway Harish seems like a nice enough fellow and just as was as we will be spending lots and lots of time with him over the next 3 weeks... Instead of driving straight to Bikaner we decided to break up the trip and stop off in Mandawa at a little resort - I know, it's a hard life we lead... Quite a few hours later we arrive at a very relaxing place ... read more

Wow culture shock city, thankfully due to our last minute planning in Singapore we were met at the airport with a driver from the hotel, always a nice feeling when you walk out of customs and see a board with your name on it - and it’s not the police… Anyway, shortly after leaving the airport on the way to our pick up, Suzanne kindly decided to give a poor child a bouncy ball to play with, only he didn’t know it was a bouncy ball and tried to eat the entire bouncy ball whole - however following a quick Heimlich Maneuver he quickly regained some colour in his cheeks and ran away to play with his new toy… I bet he was well chuffed with us… With no more near death experiences before getting to ... read more

The flight from Perth to Singapore was pretty uneventful and the most amusing thing was the pictures in the “if you crash scenario” leaflets… and that wasn’t even that amusing… We then headed towards a hostel or two before Suzanne chose the award winning Summer Tavern where they advertised as the best hostel in Singapore, deluxe 10 bed dorm rooms for only 12 dollars. Turns out to be about 36 beds in a dorm made for 10 beds so that was pretty cozy, also turned out to be about double the price but never mind, all part of the fun… We then head out into the night after being told by the hostel staff that due to it being Chinese New Year everything would be closed for at least 3 days - what kind of hangovers ... read more

Well I didn’t exactly forget to update the travel blog but we’ve been pretty busy and internet cafés haven’t exactly been jumping out at us - unlike the local wild life. Speaking of which, one thing I did forgot was how annoying flies are - and judging by my families reaction after 15 years in Australia I guess it’s something you never get used to… So let me take you back to Oz as we are currently in India (where the computers are about the same speed as the cows in the street but a little less frequent). The last time I wrote I was heading down south of Perth towards Bunbury to surprise who looked after me many years ago. So I left the Old Fire Station in Freo and headed south, to say Brian, ... read more

Where do I start for my first travel blog entry, well I’m currently sat in an internet café in the middle of Perth Australia, However as it’s the first entry let me take you back a few weeks… Before departing for my first destination I spent a month back in the UK which I have to say went very quick so I apologise if I wasn’t able to see or call you to catch up but I’ll be back in the summer and I’m sure without a job I’ll be able to find the time to see everyone… Also, for this entry I’m not actually up to much as I’ve only just landed and I’m really just kicking about Fremantle and Perth so I’ll probably waffle on about the good days when I was here last ... read more
