Connected over the centuries I remember my first swim in the Mediterranean, and feeling so connected to the history of man....... doing what they did, where they did it, thoussands of years later. Words cannont describe! Sounds like you had that same experience, Erica, in an even more profound way when you were able to read Greek texts from the ancient past. Incredible, eh? Pete, did you have that same feeling sitting on the potty?
An amazing family Sounds like an amazing day ...... you Roebbelens sure know how to cram alot in! I had no idea one could see Pompeii, Positano, Sorrento, and the Amalfi Coast all in one day! Where would you stop to spend a few more?
Top 10 Sharon, sounds like your work of organizing travels has really hit the mark! How fortunate to spend so many days close to the Trevi Fountain. It makes my top 10 list along with the David, the Pieta, the Ponte Vecchio, and the Sistine Chapel. How I wish I had something less predicatable on the list......... would fields of Italian sunflowers all with their faces in the same direction count?
I love Italy Wow .... Erica and Julia, the pictures in word and photo are amazing! Brings back many wonderful memories. Italy is so rich in history and art ....... enjoy. PS Sharon, I miss your giggle!
On no!!! I thought we would get through the travelblog without the obligatory "holding up the Leaning Tower" shot. But no.
Erica, you are so stronngggg!
Utterly captivated.. Dear Erica, I am totally captivated by your narratives and pictures (thanks to the photographers and the more than willing subjects too) and am enjoying this amazing trip/adventure with you. Our love to everyone.
Canton(ese) Wow. That picture from on the lake with shaded mountain in the foreground and lighted in the background... it's so beautiful it breaks my heart. And the hamlets!
no, unfortunately the college libraries aren't open to the public. you have to be a member of the college to get in. apparently many of the books in some libraries are still chained to the shelves!
The Queen's Guard Julia, had you been standing there 50 plus years ago, that may have been my Dad. I have been enjoying the Roebbelen Blog - what a wonderful time you are having - a wonderful family making wonderful memories!
viva italia! Hey Roebbelens! We just got back from Italy - and in Florence many mistook Steve O for the statue of David - go figure.... so much history - enjoy! We actually saw the Pope at the Vatican - give him our regards!
The O's
keep blogging In case you're wondering, the dyck's are following your travels. My sister and her husband are in london, england as well, and a year in dublin, ireland, so we have two blogs to follow. Their blog website is ennsinireland.blogspot.com, in case your paths should cross ha ha
Where are you now? So many days have passed since your last journal. You must be having an amazing time and are just too busy to write.
I think of you often and wonder where in Europe you are. From looking at your map, I imagine you are in Germany or Italy. Where did you spend July 1st, Canada Day? I remember a Canada Day spent in Rome (2003). It was quite wonderful. We visited the Canadian Embassy and our children's choir led the small group of us ..... embassy workers, choir chaperones and parents ...... in a rendition of O Canada that brougt tears to my eyes. Didn't know until then how very proud of our country I am.
Would love to see some more pictures of all of you enjoying the old world.
Sending love and blessings
who's the blond? Loving the pictures; celebrating Canada Day, and waking up to the latest London news...Julia's lookig real cosy as she tries to distract one of Her Majesty's finest...but away with the red telephone booth...and headline the pic "the beautiful blue-eyed blond". Much love to all.
In a time warp Ooops! Julia doesn't get sick until tommorrow! The miracle of technology, combined with a woman's scattered brain can bring odd results, eh?
Hope you better by now, darling girl. The clouds of England could use the sunshine of your smile!
Peter, Sharon, Erica and Julia
For various reasons the individuals comprising the aforementioned quartet are all in near desperate need of escape and adventure, change (and hopefully riddance) of routine, refreshment and relaxation, and inspiration and indulgence. These things we hope to find in varying degree as we make our way together through England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Turkey.... full info
