These guys sang for us and were so excited when I produced a couple of notes of my own..paper notes that is?
Its Friday 6th June, we have had a tiring 13 hour flight from Paris to Lima and fortunately we are met at the airport by two representatives of Peru Tourism who drove us to our beautiful hotel. We then had a meeting with Marita Nunez with whom I had liaised for the previous twelve months in putting the Peru leg of our trip together. The warm hospitality and personalised service we received was overwhelming. We were picked up early next morning for our flight to Cusco, an hour trip into the Andes. Cuzco is at an altitude of 3,400 metres and [View Full Entry]

Gay Parreee... 5 days in Paris. The Eiffel Tower, we went to the top...The Cathedral Notre Dame of Paris, amazing, Annie was able to attend Mass and take Communion, she was so thrilled...and we also went to the top. The Musee du Louvre, confusing, but we did see the Milo and Mona....The Champs Elysees, once again we seemed to fit right in as we strolled past the glitzy shops and flashy cafes. We walked the left bank, we walked the right bank, we walked and we walked...We got confused again on the Metro, (underground railway system) as we did Montmartre and [View Full Entry]

It's Friday 23rd. May, we leave the Lakes of Northern Italy and drive up into Switzerland. I do mean up, we start climbing up and over the Saint Gotthard Pass, 6935 ft (2114 m) high, the road is amazing as hairpin bands a built like bridges, just hanging out of the side of the mountain. No sooner had we descended from this pass and we were faced with the Furka Pass, as we turned onto the road to take us back up into the clouds we were confronted with a “Pass Closed” sign....? We stopped to enquire on the alternatives, Zermatt, [View Full Entry]

Sunday the 18th, we have just finished our walk along the Cinque Terra, Annie seems much more excited than normal, my first thought is that she is just so happy being away with me for 9 weeks with still another month to go. I was pretty sure it didn’t have anything to do with meeting up with Rob and Wilma in Santa Margherita, being able to get away with Wilma and do the shops, and staying the night in a beautiful hotel with a lovely soft bed and pillow??? Na! It proved to be a major operation manoeuvring the van through [View Full Entry]

The nearby Kontiki campers were awoken this morning by the usual Piper meandering through the tents with his bagpipes full of wind. The difference this morning was that it was 5:30am, mind you, still not enough to disturb Annie’s peaceful sleep. We did get away early though as today was just a driving day...autostrada all the way to Sorrento, except for the last 30km when Maria (our GPS lady) tried a shortcut through all the tiny street s of a few villages just before Sorrento. Our campground at Sorrento was high on the hills overlooking the fabulous Bay of Naples although [View Full Entry]

Needed to drag Maria (Annie) from her hills in Salzburg but it was well worth the effort as this day’s drive proved to be as spectacular a day as you could imagine. We are now on day 15 (7th. May) and the morning out of Salzburg takes us around some of the nearby lakes and villages such as Mondsee, Gmunden and Halstat. We stopped for lunch at Halstat and could have stayed a lifetime. We spent much longer strolling through the town than we had planned even though there were only a couple of streets to cover. It was perched on [View Full Entry]

The Acropolis
The Acropolis
We did get to see at least the outside. Easter Weekend meant all tours closed!
We arrived back in Athens after our short trip around the Peloponnese with plans for a quiet night and then up early for our tour of the Acropolis. We decided to go back to the Hera Hotel as it was comfortable and was within walking distance to the Acropolis. We had even upgraded our room to ensure a view of the Acropolis from our Balcony. It was therefore a surprise when the hotel clerk handed us the “keys” for the exact room we had previously stayed in. After a lengthy argument we settled into the same room where he assured us [View Full Entry]

And so to Athina...Finally out of the airport and on our journey in our rental VW gripping on to seat as Rob drove on left side of car and on the wrong side of the road!!! Motorists here are crazy, with no obeying of the road rules or speeds, it is free for all, so i hang on for dear life as we enter Athena, an old tired city expanding for miles beneath the majestic Acropolis on the mount. Roaming the corridors of the city, up and down laneways, paved with a variety of tavernas, mixing modern with the old traditional, [View Full Entry]

Sunset on Oia.
Magic, we feel so lucky to be able to visit such a beautiful place.
Arrived in Santorini after a tiring 38 hrs in transit. All went smoothly and it was well worth the it as we were met by the lovely staff at Fanari Villas and shown to our room. The views are spectacular and we had just enough time to freshen up before sitting down to a magnificent meal cooked and served by Vladimear. (yes Vladimear) We needed to pinch ourselves as we enjoyed this lovely food and wine overlooking the superb views of the Caldera and the most awesome sunset. Back to our flight, our only hitch was as we arrived at the [View Full Entry]
