Merry Christmas Love to you both in New Zealand. Have a fabulous time in your cottage in the country. Looking forward to more travelblogs in 2007. xxxxxxx
song and verse No, please not a song! Having heard Paul's taste in music and knowing how badly the English sing anyway that would be too much to ask of any cultured person. Why not employ someone (like me) to write an operetta about the whole thing when you get back. I actually shook hands with Dylan Thomas once you know - and don't say 'whose Dylan Thomas' :)
south america ending You've both been astonishingly brave and I'm sure you aren't the same people who left these shores some 3 years ago :) Of course you'll go back, but go on a portugese language crash course first.
The Tango must remain a bone of contention - when you get back I'll give you a demo you'll never forget as long as you first supply me with enough booze.
Merry Xmas x x
Tango I was of course being sarcastic about the tango, and we read up all about its background......don't think we got to see the best of it though. It was a bit touristy.
Living in the rat race that is South East England - not all its cracked up to be - is enough to put anybody in a 'deep mood', and that's the whole reason we left for a break! I might try to write a song or verse about it. Watch this space...
vines Those vines look about ten feet tall! Why? We've seen everything now, from French ones that are a modest (normal?) 4 feet or so, to La Palmean things that crawl along the ground and now these!!
tango of course the tango guys need to cheer up a bit! that's the whole point. Trouble is you soul-less english people get it so bloody good you cant remember what deep moods the more deprived, and depraved, areas of the world experience, enjoy, and put into song or verse.
And if you're visiting a tango hall to relive some of your lost youth, then the mood can get very deep, very erotic, and rather challenging. Get back in there :)
You don't need me to tell you that this one's not as interesting as the rest, but I suppose it must be difficult to maintain the level of ignazu and machu.
It's raining and pouring here too but at least we can enjoy seeing England being whipped yet again at rugby, this time by Argentina !
Looks like some pretty good shots of those falls - promising material for a painting perhaps (without Paul of course). We'll argue about the copyright when we start selling the prints :)
WOW Sitting at my computer on a real dull Autumnal afternoon. From what I can see the Argentinian side looks the better bet. Absolutely fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mountain biking It's a shame you didn't get to do the mountain biking. I received an email the other day showing this road and the lories on it. It looked quite something. I would have been interested to hear if it was really the same as shown in the email or if it had been computer enhanced.

Ah Ha! Caught you out! It IS Wales because we recognise the actual spot where you're drinking that drugged tea :)
Seriously folks, some quite breath-taking shots. Jacqui and I really envy you although we doubt we could cope with the altitude. If I can get a good copy of Paul's aerial shot it will make quite a painting.
Love John and Jacqui
WOW Well done you two, it looks absolutely amazing. Very much enjoying reading your blog and getting a glimpse of the places you are visiting.
Take care and carry on having fun
Much love

Peru What is there to say !! - except that there used to be a pub called the Cross Keys in Dowlais (also 3,000 metres altitude) which suddenly closed down a few years back and the owners disappeared. Often wondered where they went.
Great Post! First off, where are you guys from? I gather somewhere under the jurisdiction of the Queen? Secondly, its true that the Pacific fog is underplayed. Chile has the same problem, where cool moist air collides with dry and warm air.... fortunately this fog is also why many species of trees can exist, like Redwoods! I found it funny you two were scared of bears, but not the trashy people who showed up at the campsite- not 60 miles south from Caspar beach at Jenner in Sonoma County there was a double murder of two 20 somethings. It was totally random and extremely rare..... but I was just thinking that those people posed more of a threat than a possible bear! :)
I like hearing accounts of my home state from travellers, and yours was no exception. I did find it a bit tragic though that it seems you skipped some of the best parts! The Hwy 1 stretch from Pacifica(near SFran) to Santa Cruz is really cool and doesnt take much longer than driving through the bay area- as evidenced when you said "there was water in the San Andreas" undoubtedly the reserviors on Hwy 280. The other great beaches are in Isla Vista/Santa Barbara- where 1000 meter sandstone and tree covered mountains rise straight from the coast, the pacific fog is tempered by the south facing shoreline, and the view of the channel islands leaves one spellbound! Cheers!
