Sobering. Nice memorial. Good one to post on Veteran's Day as a reminder to remember all the ones who are not soldiers but also give their lives for the rest of us.

Interesting place for an Eastern Orthodox church! Wouldn't have thought of one there. Glad you got to see the Pearl S Buck House I remember you always enjoyed reading her books!

I would love to see a photo of the PGE /BCR bunkhouse in the late 60s 70s
Hello. You have fascinating photos here, it is surely a pleasure to look at them. I am looking for a photo of the Prince George bunkhouse during the late 60s and into the 70s. The bunkhouse I am thinking of used to be just off to the right of the tracks coming into Prince, and there was a gas / restaurant called Husky ? not sure, within an easy walk from the bunkhouse. I would appreciate any information I can get on this. Thanks Roy Phillips

I don't recall a bunkhouse, except for the train one. I will scan through the pictures I didn't post and see if i can see what you are describing. valerie

In Vallejo today
Thanks for looking. We stayed north of Fort Bragg the day we left. They had a cute little farmer's market that we went to. The next 4 days were spent in a redwood grove about 40-50 miles south of there. We have really been surprised by the vineyards and wineries through this area. Shaorn will write about it in a couple of days.

Wondering
Planning to make the trip to Alaska this May, 2012, leaving South Carolina around May 16. Have been advised that road conditions will be bad across the Canadian Rockies and that I will have snow on the road to deal with. What is your assessment of road and driving conditions from Dawson Creek to Anchorage and then on to the Kenai? By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog about this leg of your travels. Where did you leave from? I assume this is just a part of a long road trip. Thanks for any info that you are willing to share. Lewis

Sorry this took so long
We left from Atlanta on April 13th and were in Dawson Creek on May 15th. The worst of the road problems were a 100-mile stretch on the Canadian side of the Alcan highway where they have frost heaves. These cause the road to be bumpy and for there to be construction. I would recommend that you just take it slowly and be prepared for it to be tiring, and you shouldn't have any problem. We traveled in a 23 foot rv, so didn't experience any hitch problems that may occur with bumpy roads. We would avoid this stretch in the future, but we wanted to do the entire highway. If you have any other questions, we would be happy to talk with you over the phone. Just set an appointment and we can talk then.

The end
I hate to see it end. I think I'm going to start at the beginning and read the whole thing as a book. I'll be sure the kids see it and learn from it. What a trip!! It is so good.

Thanks...
Thanks for letting me "Tag Along" on you wonderful trip. It seems like you had a Great and Memorable Adventure. I Loved the photo's and well thought out comments and captions. One Question... Did you ever figure out other "Alaskan" Songs? In light of your Accomplishment, and in keeping with the Joy and Satisfaction of a Well completed Journey. I would suggest the "Iditarod Trail Song" by Hobo Jim (youtube). As it may sow the Seed for another Adventure. The History of the 1925 Life Saving Serum Run is Bleak and Hard, and relived every year in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. I Applaud your Sense of Adventure and Hunger for Knowlege and Understanding. Thanks again, for letting me Tag Along... Bill

Rosie's --- thanks for the blog entry about the Russell Museum. We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit. It's always fun to see the blogs and the photos (yours are very good, by the way). Hope you enjoyed your visit through Montana. Darrell Beauchamp, Exec. Director of the C.M. Russell Museum).

AK7 July17 Madame Tremblay's mercantile

Mme Emilie Tremblay
This summer we drove all the way to Alaska. My mother, Blanche Gravel-Tremblay was one of Mme Tremblay's godchildren. My goal was to go to Dawson City and visit Mme Tremblay's store, since my mother never had the chance to go herself. Unfortunately, we could not make it to Dawson City. I had seen the store's picture on a very old photo, so I am glad I could have access to your website to at least see an updated photo of the store.

hikers
The hikers look like they are wearing their tents--especially the one on the right. My first thought was, "They are going to roast in all that gear." But, I guess it's no in the mid 90s there.

photos
Not sure if the other post went through--but I'm having a problem seeing photos in firefox. I've got a bunch of antivirus/spyware/adware stuff installed in Firefox and it often causes a problem like that. Most of the time I don't care, but obviously I want to see these photos. When I had a problem sending my last comment, I turned some of the anti-everything addons off, and voila! there are the photos.
