Well, counting down the final week in England, I've had an amazing time in Europe with memorable things including Warsaw's Old Town (totally rebuilt after WW2), Woburn safari park where the monkeys sit on the cars, all of Edinburgh, lots of amazing days exploring London, walking in the pouring rain in Manchester, actually wearing holes in my best shoes because of all the walking I've done, York Minster and all the old buildings, yummy Marks and Spencer food, trying to communicate with Polish people who didn't speak English, walking my sister's dog in the park and hoping to see squirrels but then when the dog sees squirrels I nearly fall over, there's lots more too but not enough time to list everything here. I have to admit to being quite scared about Africa. It's going to ... read more
Hi again, counting down the hours until I leave for Poland now... it will be a shame to leave the beautiful weather in England (I'm serious, the weather has really improved since last week - it's hot and sunny!) but hopefully Poland is warm too. I'm a bit scared about using Easyjet because of all the scary Airport programmes on TV, but I'll make sure I'm at check-in on time and don't get trampled by all the people running for seats. Then it's off to a country where they don't speak English and I don't speak Polish, SCARY! But I'll be fine. Have been trying to change some money into Polish Zloty for the past couple of days, but apparently it's so obscure I'd have to order it in, so I guess I'll just wait until ... read more
Sorry for the long time between entries, but while in LA the hostel computers wouldn't let me access this site and since being in England I've been getting over jetlag! I've been a tad disappointed with the weather here, generally cool and rainy/cloudy most days. But I've still been out and about. Been to London twice to catch the sights - Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park. Very cool. But the exchange rate for the NZ dollar is so scary I'm literally counting every penny I spend! I'm off to Poland next week, so it will be nice to be somewhere that the NZ$ is in a reasonably good position! I feel very safe here compared to the states, I'm not sure why as there are far more people and thus more chance of banging into ... read more
Hi again. Well I have now experienced the famous Greyhound bus system - I have to say It could do with a lot of improvement! The bus from Anaheim to San Diego was dirty and had some of the weirdest people on board, but I made it here safely. My hostel seems ok. A bit old but cosy. There's 3 others in my room but I haven't met them yet, so we'll see I guess. Tomorrow I plan on checking out the zoo, the hostel offers cheap tickets which is good. I'm saving money all over the place! I'm using internet at the library which means it's free! Only 6 minutes left now so must go...... read more
Hi again. This time from the warm and sunny home of Mickey mouse! Well what an eye opener this is. There are just so many people! From the time I got off my (very long) flight I have been totally overwhelmed. I am walking around in a bit of daze really. But I'm exploring. I actually managed to find a supermarket yesterday! And today I've been on the coolest rides at Disneyland. I loved it and tomorrow I'm going to California Adventure for even scarier rides. I've had Taco Bell (one of the things on my Must Do list) twice! And it's sooo yummy. The hotel is pretty nice and I think at least half the guests are Ozzies or Kiwis which is cool. Will post some photos in the next few days to show you ... read more
Only 12 hours until my first flight leaves... I've realised that trying to get 4 months worth of stuff into one travel pack is not easy (consider about 5 attempts at repacking everything - and one mild hissy fit where I actually threw everything across the room because it wouldn't fit!) but I think it's finally all done now. All I have to remember now is passport and tickets - I think I'm the queen of multiple lists, I'm probably psychotically prepared but I have to be to keep myself sane! Anyway, the next time I write I will hopefully have found my way to Los Angeles and will be enjoying all the fun and excitement of Disneyland. Wish me luck, until next time...... read more
I picked up my tickets yesterday so the countdown has definately begun. Only 12 days until I embark on my first solo overseas experience!!! It's been great doing all the planning safely at home, but I have to admit to being a bit scared of getting on that giant plane all by myself. I'm sure it will be great and I'll have a fantastic time. So to everyone reading this blog - stay tuned, soon it will be recounting my tales of Disneyland, lions, lemurs and more!... read more
