Date: July 2008 PEBBLED BEACH Dieppe, France Notes: "Dieppe is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Haute-Normandie region of France. A port on the English Channel, famous for its scallops, and with a regular ferry service from the Gare Maritime to Newhaven in England, Dieppe also has a popular pebbled beach, a 15th-century castle and the churches of Saint Jacques and Saint Rémi. During the later nineteenth century, Dieppe became popular with English artists as a beach resort. Prominent literary figures such as Arthur Symons loved to keep up with the latest fads of avant-garde France here, and during "the season" sometimes stayed for weeks on end. " (Source: wikipedia.org) How I got there: From Rouen, France I took a regional train. It took me around 1 hour to get to Dieppe. From the ... read more

Date: 6 May 2009 Venue: Loboc, Bohol, Philippines Activity: Post Workshop-Tour, MODEL 2009: Europe-Philippines International Workshop on Modelling, Simulation, and Grid Computing. Notes: A visit to Bohol is not complete without seeing the famous Philippine Tarsier. "The Philippine Tarsier (Tarsius syrichta), known locally as the Maumag in Cebuano/Visayan, is an endangered tarsier species endemic to the Philippines. It is found in the southeastern part of the archipelago, particularly in the islands of Bohol, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao. Its name is derived from its elongated "tarsus" or ankle bone". ( Source: wikipedia.org ) Note: According to a colleague of mine, tarsiers should be viewed exclusively at the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella, Bohol. This is the facility where tarsiers are properly treated and given enough space to roam. From the photo collection of Raffy... read more

May 31st 2009

On May 10, 2009 (Sunday) I joined a group of colleagues (Panda Grid Workshop participants) on a boat trip to Pamilacan Island in Bohol, Philippines. From Flushing Meadows Resort (were we stayed) in Panglao Island, Bohol, the boat took us to Pamilacan Island (around 40 minutes, one way). Some of us went scuba diving and the others went snorkeling. The weather was very sunny (we were lucky because in Manila and Luzon there were heavy rains on that day). Pamilacan is a very small island. In the island I was able to take photos of fish being dried on the beach. (Note: I will have a separate entry on our scuba diving and snorkeling experience in Pamilacan Island).
