| 12th March 2007 Christina | - From: On Being a Solo Female Traveler I completely agree with being a SFT! When I studied in Dublin and traveled in groups, shopping was key, not seeing the beauty of the places we went to. It was devastating when we found ourselves outside Buckingham Palace at the exact time of the Changing of the Guards (which is a must-see) and they pulled me away because they were cold and bored and wanted Starbucks. When we went to Galway, I left the group while they were shoe shopping (in a store that we had in Dublin, mind you) and I got to see little nooks and crannies that were on side streets in the town that they weren't able to see. (I made them jealous with my pictures though!) I'm glad you are having a good time! I am so jealous of you experience! |
| 11th March 2007 Elliott | Awesome - From: On Being a Solo Female Traveler Hey Rachel, thats some great advice for anybody. Glad to see your still rocking the Europe Conquest, Dubrovnik looks just...special. Enjoy. -E |

You are a brave person to be traveling alone - be safe. Love - Nancy |
| 17th February 2007 Jamie | Did you munch on cicchetti? - From: Venice is Dying One of my favorite parts about Venice were cicchetti bars. Cicchetti are little bread slices with local ingredients like fish or cheese. I equate it to Venitian sushi. One euro each and a one euro glass of house wine. It is a good way to make up for the fact everything else is so spendy. |

| 10th February 2007 todd in dallas | why the medusa heads weren't straight - From: Breaking into Istanbul University hi, love your pics, reminds me of my time there with the US Embassy. don't mean to sound like an archeology nerd but Justinian(or was it Constantine?) dismalted the roman temple above where the cistern now sits, and using the biggest blocs(medusa and aphrodite's heads) used them to shore up the pillars(the 2/4 pillars they are under are higher that the rest). It was also a way for the Christian emperor to insult the old roman religions |
| 7th February 2007 Ashley | - From: Turkish Delight I hope that adam and elliot enjoyed the belly dancing!!!! congrats on the publishedness....you are amazing!!!! |

| 1st November 2006 Amy Snyder | concentration camps - From: Bitter History Rachel, I'm glad you got to experience this very sad place. I bet it was fascinating and scary and emotional, all at the same time. I took a Holocaust class in high school and have always been intrigued by those horrible times in our history. I am just bewildered that people could be so cruel to other people, in huge quantities as such it happened. Good luck with the rest of your journey! |
| 1st November 2006 Ashley | A Strange Experience.... - From: Bitter History going to a concentration camp is something that cannot be described...only experienced....you really begin to question the world around you and the people that inhabit it....how could it be possible???? |
| 1st November 2006 Ana | Wow - From: Bitter History Even though we know about all this I'm sure it's an entirely different feeling than what we'd expect being there. You're a very wise one Miss Rachel. |
| 30th October 2006 Ashley | - From: Trainspotting did you love prague!??!?! i love the crazy art! the feet are very interesting....be ready for lots of strange food....who knows what you order when you dont know the language!!! |
| 29th October 2006 Stephanie Perry | Euro Trip - From: Trainspotting Have you seen that movie Euro Trip?? The part where they are riding in the train and that strange man won't leave them alone is hilarious! It totally reminded me of what you said about getting a 6 bunk sleeper on the train! LOL! Luckily (and hopefully) you haven't run into any of those types. :) I am totally impressed with you and Adam's navigation skills. By now I would have been so lost...you are really doing everything you can and that is AWESOME! I want to hear all the bits and pieces of foreign language you have picked up on your journey. :) |
| 25th October 2006 John Williams | Prague Culinary Suggestions - From: Czech this out On January 11, 1983--during an Austin College Jan Term--I had some really excellent beer at a place call U Flecku in Prague. It's probably still there (it has been there for more than 700 years). On the off chance that y'all see this before you leave Prague, you might want to check it out (I'm pretty sure they ha dfood as well). Keep watching & keep writing. JDW |

| 24th October 2006 Hannah | Beautiful Ireland - From: Belfast Hi Rachel! It's been great following your trip. The photos of Ireland, and the Blarney Castle in particular, have been my favourite. Your trip sounds fabulous so please keep up the great travel stories. Doesn't seem that long since you were here in Australia telling me about your travels. Enjoy the rest of your time in Ireland and wherever else your travel plans lead you. Love Hannah |
| 19th October 2006 Allison | what to notice--murals and peacewalls - From: Belfast Look out for the strange ways they do barbed wire there--traditional, glass, etc--so many ways to keep people out. Did you see the police cars?--they are bomb proof. If you went up toward the city cemetery you would have seen another peace wall and in between it is a community centre that tries to be open for both sides... Did you get to meet with Peter? What about Hannah? Go visit Mornington!!!--they have a new mural up which represents the good in the community--not the paramilitaries!! They are trying to show that murals can be peaceful and bring people together |
| 19th October 2006 DAD | - From: Belfast Hi dear-Thanks for your informative blog on Belfast. Loved the photos but couldn't figure out quite the kissing the blarney stone photo. Were you being suspended upside down? Strange stuff. Glad you are getting into some decent hostels. Best to Adam. All is well here. We're looking forward to seeing you soon in Italy. No word from John but I calculate that he's been in a kayak for about 2.5 weeks and that's a long time. Hope he's still in one piece--above the water. Sarah is thinking about doing "club" volleyball and has try outs this weekend so her sporting life may continue. Be careful. Be careful Be careful. Adam: Watch over her if she's not careful. Love, DAD |

| 13th October 2006 Allison | Bloody Sunday and Puffins - From: Claims to fame When you go to the North go to Derry (or Londonderry--depending on who you ask) It is where bloody sunday actually happened. You can get an Ulsterbus there from Belfast. There might even be a red bus tour you can catch from the Holiday Inn in Belfast (I have seen it there on a sunday morning alot) but it is probably more expensive. You know, they do believe that the book of Kells was written at the Island of Iona--sorry that the weather was so bad there. If it makes you feel better the weather was bad for me there too. The rain pierces you. Did you see any Puffins? They are crazy about them there! |
| 13th October 2006 Patton | Life Journey - From: Irish Hospitality Rachel the blog is a great idea for allowing all of us to keep up with your travels. It takes me back a few years to the days when I set sail on an ocean so blue. The Freedom you have is inspiring. | 2nd October 2006 DAD | Scotland - From: Lossiemouth Loved the poem and the pictures! We're following you all the way. Best to Adam. You two look happy. John called Saturday night late. He's boarding a bus at their base camp this morning (Monday) for an hour and a half bus ride to a ship which they will sail on for 8 hours to their point of embarkation with sea kayaks. Then its 28 days in the boats, a meeting at "rendezvous" to pick up their mountain gear and another 28 days in the mountains. He is with the mixed group (5 girls and 11 guys). All our love... |
| 1st October 2006 Ashley | - From: Lossiemouth im so glad that you are truly a traveler instead of a tourist....it makes the trip much more pleasurable and you really get to know your surroudings! your poem made me laugh and english/scot history is pretty cool! |

| 1st October 2006 Stephanie Perry | Dallas - From: Lossiemouth I bet when you saw that sign of "Dallas" your jaw dropped! When I was in Europe this summer any time I would see something that was remotely familiar I would have to run over and take a picture with it! Hehe, funny how our mind works. :) The photo of you and Adam on the arch "mini hike" is such a GREAT PHOTO!!! Keep it for a lifetime! You are very lucky you have someone like him to share this incredible expirience with. Sometimes when you are traveling, the person you are sharing your time and space with can make/break your journey! Hugs and Love, Stephanie Perry |
| 29th September 2006 Caleb | Cornish meat pies... - From: Kilts and Celts Ach, the beautiful homeland. Tell her hi for me. Takes me back to Scottish festivals past... I'm proud of you for taking on this adventure, and I'm looking forward to reading about your travels on the blog. Make sure and eat a meat pie for me, and tell bonnie old England I'll see it later. Also, don't know how much time for reading you have, but I just finished "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White. Definitely a cool book to check out about England in the Middle Ages, all about King Arthur and such but told with a different slant on it that's both funny and thought-provoking. Hope the traveling's going well. We'll say a prayer for you both. |
| 26th September 2006 DAD | Glad to hear all is well... - From: Kilts and Celts Scotland sounds wonderful. Was just drafting a letter to the Whitehorns thanking them for their hospitality. Glad you have found a mountain to climb in Edinburgh. John sent a long long email yesterday. He's good, working hard on Wilderness First Responder (WFR) training, working in the classroom all day and preparing for a big test at the end of the week. Then he's in the field for a month!! Awfully glad weather is good. Very smart of you handling england and Scotland now. Sarah misses you very much and remembers both you and Adam in her prayers every single night. Iain & Robina |
| 26th September 2006 Eman | Oh snaps! - From: Dancing with an Englishman Hey Rachel, your pictures are awesome! It looks like from the pictures that you two are having a good time but you know what, me and dude thought if adam was a good boyfriend he would have moved Stonehenge around to spell your name or atleast impressed you with his massive strength by knocking a piece of it over. Weak! Anyways, I am curious about the people you've run across. Or have you heard any crazy stories or legends? Oh and if you get to Norway, ask about me, I am kind of a big name over there. Well tell Adam I am well on my way with earning enough to buy my ticket to fly over the pond, I just cashed my lottery ticket and am now 2 dollars or should I say 2 pounds richer! I've gotta go decide whether I should spend or save my riches now. Adios. -Elliott |

Once members of a self proclaimed "Winnie the Pooh" episode...we were all there. Kanga (or was it Rabbit?), Eeyore, Tigger, and Piglet...we were all there. 4 completely different backgrounds and 4 completely different lives, yet somehow we all kinda stuck together. You have always been a leader, and you are intelligent beyond your years. You have a heart of Gold and I admire you for it...like so many people do. Congratulations and may you make the most of your journey. We are all here with you. P.S. If you stop by Paris, go to L'aduree (the most incredible French pastries). I was there this summer...it's the stuff that dreams are made of! Hugs and Love, Stephanie Perry |
