Jeez have I heard about this street... I married a Cuban since then, and he keeps on laughing about the Callejon de Hamel, saying I got taken for a ride in a tourist trap... Hey well... Was nice anyway!

This used to be real beautifull, 50 years ago before "The Rovo-ilusion" I used to play there 45 yrs ago, just to take a walk thru there was super. now as you see its being let to root, makes you cry.

Hi Sophie, I have just read your blog on your visit to Uruguay Even though I am Uruguayan (living in Australia) I learnt some things that I didn't know! uruguay may be a small country but it has a large heart and its people love visitors from other countries and try to make them feel welcome. It's a very laid back kind of place and has some great traditions going for it. Thanks for sharing your views...they were very informative. Grace

Dooooooooo come to Cuba in November, that would be really cool, although I'm not there at the mo, had to come back to France to work for the summer :-( So if you feel like seeing Geneva again, just let me know! La première fois que j'ai vu Juca il s'est ramené vers MArtin et lui a dit en portugais 'comment on dit ça en anglais?' En faisant le signe en question... Avec mon esprit mal tourné j'ai bien évidemment tout de suite éclaté de rire, et 2 secondes les mecs ont percuté pourquoi et se sont joints à moi... En fait pour Juca ça c'est le signe pour 'percer'... Huuuuuuuuuum......

Wow Soph, great to see you are happy, enjoying it, and having lots of fun! I must admit, im pretty jealous.... Planning on going to St Lucia in November, all being well, but will let you know nearer the time. Maybe i fly over to meet up with you for a few days, if you like... but will see what i can afford when the time comes. Well, you do have your excuse to come to Cuba, so pack your bags! I loved Brazil, I went to the jungle in the Pantanal for 2 nights, and ended up staying 5... It´s perfection for me, quiet, no one around and lots of animals... I absolutely loved it! went to the Pão de Acucar and Cristo Redemptor this morning, and that´s my tourism done in Brazil :-( But I´ll be back, you can bet on it! x

Thank you Sophie. I always wanted a excuse to go to Cuba. Now I will have one :) I saw your pictures in Facebook and they are great. I meant the pictures of Carnaval. Hopefully you have a great time in Brazil. And I hope I get the gourd too so I can drink some Yerba Mate Mmmmm. I do think is funny in portuguese is Bomba crazy lenguages :)

Hey my favourite taxi driver (not hard on account that I usually hate them all!)
I can´t believe you´ve actually taken time to write me a note (and read my blogs), I´m gobsmacked! I am having great fun, but if I may say so, I LOVED my flat in the middle of nowhere! Painting it, gardening, putting coving (gee I´m sure you´ll remember that!), it was fab!! Can´t believe you live on a farm, never exactly imagined you as the farm type! lol! Am sure you´re having fun amongst the cows and sheep though!!! I do remember the eye stuff, cos dinner was cooked and you never turned up cos you couldn´t see! Sorry to hear you´re still having trouble with it, that sucks... And how´s your heart? Bet you´re still not taking good care of it... I remember you telling me your dad had buggered off to the Caribbean (I think that´s the right spelling!): whenever you go you´d better let me know and make sure you come to Cuba as well, I´m gonna be living there for a while so you HAVE to come visit! Figure toi qu´en ecrivant j´y ai pense que je la faisais a la Carrie... sauf qu´elle elle a des reponses a la fin de l´episode! C´est rigolo, tout le monde a des avis tres differents sur le sujet... Et c´est vrai que tu as souleve un point important la, les ´vieux´qui donnent l´impression de se foutre de leurs petits enfants comme de leur premiere chemise... Y en a aussi pas mal, ca va dans les 2 sens... Et Aline a aussi souleve le probleme des vieux mechants, et eux aussi, y en a pas mal! Je me souviens d une copine qui avait voulu laisse sa place a une vieille dans le bus, et elle lui avait hurle dessus en lui disant qu elle etait quand meme pas vieille au point de pas tenir debout... Et apres ca on dit que les jeunes sont pas sympa!!! Enfin, je me dis que j´ai vraiment de la chance de venir d´une famille que j´adore, ou on me montre que l´on tient a moi et malgre la distance, je me sens tres proche d´eux! Bises!

Hi Ben, Was going to write to you, I sent off your gourd today! Might never arrive though cos I had to write the contents on the customs form, and in portuguese gourd is ´bomba´, so the US customs might get worried! Get ready to have the police break down your door and treat you as a terrorist one of these days!!! If it does get there, the woman told me it should take about a month. I had to use my bestest portuguese at the post office!!! I´m not going back to France, on March, 4th I have a flight back to Cuba where I will live for a while... We´ll be practically neighbours, so you´d better come visit at some point!!! Speak soon! x

Hiya my favorite french gal! lol... I have been reading your blogs everytime they turn up, and i just thought i better write a note, and let you know that i do actually read them! Glad to see you are having fun, and enjoying yourself. So much better than being stuck in a flat in the middle of nowhere, with a guy from the internet! lol... My life is pretty boring really, i have moved house, and now live on a farm, i still work hard, and im still having trouble with my eye... (if you remember.... one evening i thought i had something in it?.. went to hospital, had a lump of metal removed, and it left me sightless for over a week.... well i m still having grief with it, but the doctors say there isnt anything i can do about it), im plannign a trip to the carabiean.... (not sure of the spelling).... my dad lives there now, has done since Decembre 2007, and he has invited me over for a break... so not sure when im going, but will go there at some point in the next six months. Other than that, my life is pretty much the same... pretty boring, full of work... and pretty envious of you, out there in the real world, enjoying yourself, and seeing the great sights of the world.
