San Francisco has a lot going for it. We appreciated its climate (up in the mid-60s), its geography (the city’s character is formed by its hills, 43 in all), its China Town (one of the biggest in the West), the touristy Fisherman’s Wharf and its cable cars. Those intrepid travellers, Marianne and Max, (“Have baby, Will travel”) dropped by from Minneapolis, glad to escape the -20C temperatures in freezing Minnesota. Michael joined us the next day and this was a very happy start to the holiday. Our “dinghy”, the QM2, sailed in on Saturday afternoon, causing quite a stir. We joined the thousands who lined the piers to watch her just make it under the Golden Gate Bridge amidst a flotilla of little boats and water cannon. We are now sailing the Pacific, adjusting to
