The church is one of the best kept in the region, was built in the 10th century as a monastry dedicated to John the Baptist at that time Barhal was a part of Georgia and probably was a donation from the royal family. the Church became mosque in the late 18th century during the time of the Sultan Abdül-Hamid the 1st, the firman of the event is in the muhtarlik, they still call it "Kilise" There are some stones with sculptures in the façade, tunels contecting to the other side of the mountains and we all think that arround it there [View Full Entry]

His name is Mustafa Aygün but everybody calls him Mevlut Çavus, the nickname of its father. I met him in 1994 when I arrived to Barhal for the first time, in 1997 I stood in its house and since then I go at least once to the year. Perset is in the way up to the Karagöl, after crossing the bridge that was renewed last octuber. Perset is the last mahalle, group of houses, where people live in winter. Mehmet Karahan is one of my best friends in Barhal, he has a wonderful pension where I allways stay at least one night, It is a great cook and a very nice person, I realy like to talk with him. www.karahanpension.com is a traditional house next to the church, is very well known. He has had important gests like the sister of H. M. the Queen of England or my brother Yasar Yucel, among others. When he has time Mehemt takes care of his bees. They are two main cafes in Barhal, one belongs to Mehemet Kirimli and the other to Osman Pehlivan, both of then are in Mahçetler, men meet ther, drink tea or coffee and spend thier time playing cards, okey or backgammon. They talk, they gossip and they spend theyr time in winter. Köyde iki tane kahve var, ikiside Maçhetlerde birisi Mehmet Kirimli'ye ait oluyor, öbürü Osman Pehlivan'a , adamlar kahvlerde toplaniyorlar, çay veya kahve içerler, kart oyniyorlar, okey, tavle atiyorlar, sohbet eder ve dedikodu yapar.
