This past week has been the hardest week (school wise) to date. I had multiple tests/quizzes everyday and Friday was the worst. However, I had a light at the end of the tunnel-Harry Potter. But more on that later. Last Sunday we went to this great little pizzeria in a section of town called-not surprisingly-Little Italy. Their pizza was as good, if not better, than some of the pizza I've had at home. On Tuesday we went to this Indian restaurant/bar. I was quite worried I wouldn't be able to eat anything(with my horrible dislike of anything mildly spicy) but the [View Full Entry]

Sun Moon Lake Asia » Taiwan » Taichung
Today we went to Sun Moon Lake. We somehow acquired a private tour bus and drove there. We had enough people to completely fill the bus. It was a pretty comfortable bus...until the ride back. More on that later. We took a tour around Sun Moon Lake asian style. We drove to the first place (sun moon lake) and took pictures. Then we got back on the bus and drove for 20 minutes up tight, twisty mountain roads. Though not near any cliffs, it was still an...interesting ride. We arrived at our next destination, which happened to be a place [View Full Entry]

Picture Time Asia » Taiwan » Taichung
I have internet in my room now. I've spent a good amount of time uploading a lot of my pictures, but not onto this site. You can only upload photos one at a time on this site, and that was a no-go with 115 pictures. The link to my pictures is: http://lifewithmeghan.myphotoalbum.com/ Enjoy! The link is also in my profile, so don't worry about losing the address. [View Full Entry]

Changhua Asia » Taiwan » Taichung
On Saturday I went with my Taiwanese friend Natalie, 3 of her friends, and Graeme, Ryan, and Tashi (from Puget Sound) to Changhua. It's geographically not very far from Taichung, but with traffic, it's a 40 minute bus ride to the train station, then 1 1/2 hours on the train. Despite the traveling time and getting up really early (and making sure the guys were conscious in time) to catch a 7:20 am bus was totally worth it. We went to one stop on this old rail line. It's called the Jiji train station. I believe I read somewhere that it [View Full Entry]

Most of you know that I'm in Taiwan for two months, but noteveryone knows that I'm here essentially to go to summer school. I'm going to summer school, in Taiwan. Every weekday I have classes from 8 am-12 noon. Four hours sounds intense, but it's not 4 solid hours of classes. The first class of the day is usually an hour long. Then we take a break between each class, which, as the breaks start growing longer throughout the morning, classes shorten a little. So we go to class but then get to chat or check email inbetween classes. They have [View Full Entry]

Dining in Taiwan Asia » Taiwan » Taichung
I've decided to write an entry on my observations of Taiwanese eating habits as of thus far. First and foremost-no one cooks their own food. Lots and lots of families seem to have their own little food shop/stand, yet everyone eats out for almost every meal. It's kind of annoying having to eat out for every meal or eat somewhat gross cafeteria food. Before coming to Taiwan, my mother read somewhere an observation someone made-It may look gross, but it will most certainly taste good. For the most part this seems to be true. I've tried to stick somewhat to foods [View Full Entry]

Internet at Last!! Asia » Taiwan » Taichung
finally have internet now. I moved to a different room today too. The school wanted to consolidate all the kids staying for the summer. It was a day from Hell, in all honesty. I didn't have that much stuff, but my roommate, who is also staying for the summer and is moving to a different room, has TONS AND TONS of stuff. Not only that, but our building was as far back in the corner of the womans' area as you could go. There was no path without stairs, so using the carts they provided did little to help. However, after [View Full Entry]

First Day of Classes Asia » Taiwan » Taichung » Dajia
Ok, I'm standing in the library lobby typing this. Air conditioning is a blessing which you cannot fully appreciate until you come to Taiwan. Seriously, you do not know the meaning of heat until you've been here. I just checked the weather for the first time-It says that its 84 degrees here, but feels like 94. I find this hard to believe as I feel sweat pouring off of me. The only comfort in this is that everyone here sweats, a lot. I can hear a thunder storm rolling in (Yes, they have thunderstorms! Yay!!) and I hope it will bring [View Full Entry]

First Days in Taiwan Asia » Taiwan » Taichung
Well, it took 21 hours of flying, not stop if you don’t count the 20 minute layover between flights, but I’m here. During the stop in San Fran, we (Ryan, Graeme and I) met up with this saint of a woman. I don’t think it’s coincidental we met up. Not only was she traveling back to her home town (Taichung, where we were going) but she also used to teach at the college we currently attend. I like to think of her as a mother duck-She was the first person we made contact with, and she led us around until [View Full Entry]

Here I am Asia » Taiwan » Taichung
Well, I have a nice long entry written up for your viewing pleasure, but it is trapped on my computer which has no internet yet. I don't think internet will be available to me until July 1st. I'm using a roommate's computer right now. So instead of my long entry, which I will post as soon as I have internet, I'll give you a summary. We met up with this amazing woman, who by sheer coincidence was going to Taichung as well, and also used to teach at Umass Amherst. Crazy! We met her in San Fran, by the way. She [View Full Entry]
