Sunset
A river mouth or delta, where you can catch a great view of the sunset This past week has been the hardest week (school wise) to date. I had multiple tests/quizzes everyday and Friday was the worst. However, I had a light at the end of the tunnel-Harry Potter. But more on that later.
Last Sunday we went to this great little pizzeria in a section of town called-not surprisingly-Little Italy. Their pizza was as good, if not better, than some of the pizza I've had at home. On Tuesday we went to this Indian restaurant/bar. I was quite worried I wouldn't be able to eat anything(with my horrible dislike of anything mildly spicy) but the cook was very respectful of my wishes for 'very mild'. That was a pricey dinner (as was the pizza) but it was definitely worth it. On Friday afternoon, Tashi and his Taiwanese roommates took us to what they call 'the Ocean'. Though it's not really an ocean. It's called Gao Mei She Di(I have no idea what it means), but it was described to me as a 'he kou' (translated as river mouth, literally), so your guess is as good as mine. Anyway, it's a shore that stretches as far I could see, with slick mud covered with just
a little water-making it very, very, very slippery!! Our purpose for driving there and walking out in the mud was to see the sunset-and see it we did! It was a great sunset, and I got some great photos! After that we went to this pier-type place with lots of seafood joints. We walked into one that housed several seafood restaurants and women from different stands were literally pulling our arms, trying to get us into their store. It was crazy! And absolutely hilarious. Then our group stood in front of tanks with live seafood and chose what they wanted to eat(I stuck to beef noodles...I passed on the seafood). After that we went to this cute cafe on a hillside that had a great view of the city!
Today was THE day. The day millions and millions of people have been waiting for(well, not so many in Taiwan)-Harry Potter!!! To be honest, the only reason I'm writing now is because I've finished! This morning a friend and I went to the campus bookstore at 9:20, hoping that they may have it. Lady Luck was with us today, as the store opened at 9:30. The employees were baffled by
the foreigners hanging outside the door, but they figured it out. As soon as they opened up, all they said was "Ha Li Po Te?" That's how it's said in Chinese. I'm curious as to how all those Latin words and magic vocab are translated into Chinese.
After acquiring the book, a group of us took a field trip to the nearby Jade market. It was hard, but I managed to put the book down long enough to interact with the outside world for a little while. After the Jade market, it was back to my room to read for a couple hours. But after the hard wooden chairs and tatami-mat beds drove our sore butts out of our rooms, we went to (now this I found a little peculiar) the hospital 5 minutes away to read at the Starbucks there. My bum was very much thankful for those amazingly cushy seats.
