Exploring the Mississippi
a trip by Jackie Halliday
From: June 13th 2019

Some of us learned how to spell Mississippi at school so it will stand me in good stead on this trip, on the paddle steamer the American Queen, approx 1800kms from New Orleans to Red Wing, near Minneapolis. Although it could be a bit tricky with all the severe flooding that has been happening in the area. Hopefully the rain will ease by the time we leave New Orleans on the 24th June.
The Mississippi River runs through or along 10 states, from Minnesota to Louisiana, and is used to define portions of these states borders, with Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi along the east side of the river, and Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas along its west side (Wikipedia).
Flying into Houston we visit the Menil Art Collection there and fly on to Savannah to see our grandsons Aidan and Nicholas (it's his 12th birthday) and their mum Kim. After the river cruise we fly home from Chicago on the 19th July.
