Sabai-dii! That means "hello" in Lao. We left Thailand about a week ago, and since then have been in the country of Laos. To get to Laos, which shares a border with Thailand, we had to cross a river in a small boat. Laos is similar to Thailand in many ways, but also very different. For example, the language is very close, but not the same. "Chicken" in Thai is "gai," whereas in Lao it is "kai." "Thank you" is "khap jai" here in Laos, but was "khap kun" in Thailand. Someone who speaks Lao can usually understand someone who speaks Thai. In Laos, they also have different money than we used in Thailand.
