Making Burgers
He was very excited since he'd never had a "real American hamburger" before.
Hallo alle. Since we last spoke, it's been rather low-key here. I had my midterm for my German for International Students class on Tuesday, and that went alright. My professor had put stuff on it that we'd never learnt, which was pretty annoying, and it threw all of us off. I was sitting inbetween a friend from Australia and a friend from Spain, and we decided to make it a team effort and use each others' papers to "bounce ideas off of one another." Tuesday night, Thomas decided he wanted to cook us dinner, and Libor and I had no objections [View Full Entry]

How many cards does an American need?
How many cards does an American need?
The answer is 10. These are the 10 cards that I always have on me, now including my residency permit that makes me an official Austrian!
Ladies and Gents, it's official. I'm an Austrian. This morning I woke up at the crack of dawn to meet my friend Sophia. Together, we went to the Staatsbürgerschaftsbüro to pick up our residency permits. I am officially a resident of the Republic of Austria, and a "member" of the European Union. Jawohl! They spelt my name wrong, but oh well. I have to go back next week and pick up a new card with my name spelt right , but such is life. I also reregistered my address with the government today, so all officialities are finalized. So this is [View Full Entry]

Servus. I have had a ridiculously busy week, and this is my first time to update this ol' thing, so I thought I'd let you all know what I've been doing. To start with, I'll answer Kristy's question from my last blog, which was something I'd thought about after I'd written it but was too lazy to go back and change it. Erasmus is the European Exchange Network. All the European kids here are here with Erasmus. Though I'm not Erasmus, as I am not European, I'm still a member of the network, as is every change student at my university [View Full Entry]

Alright, nobody said that while we were abroad, we'd all have to actually do homework and go to school and do that stuff. Isn't going abroad about traveling and enjoying yourself and really just having a year off? Not in Austria. This has been a very academic weekend indeed. It all started....Friday.... Friday morning I had to wake up nice and early to go with Elisabeth (my advisor) and Sophia (my friend from Mexico) to go and drop off the paperwork for our residency permit. Sophia also decided to stay for the year. Thus, I was up at 6:45, and we [View Full Entry]

Greetings all, It's been an awesome few days since we last spoke, just getting settled in here on Neubaugasse and finding ways to avoid the 100+ pages I have to read for Italian. It's a rough life. Anyways, not too much to report on, just loving life and enjoying myself. I'm feeling pretty European at the moment, as it's 8:30 at night and I just finished eating dinner. Today I also plugged in my tv for the first time and was flipping through the channels , and I found Rai Uno, which I was excited about. It [View Full Entry]

Sorry all for not writing for a few days. Since getting my job, it was pretty lowkey here, although from Friday until now has been a whirlwind where I haven't had a second to sit down and actually just relax and update on here. So, let's go! I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but on Friday, there was a holiday in America. You might know it, it's called Halloween? Well, they don't have it in Austria. They know what it is, and there were some decorations here and there for it, but nobody trick-or-treats, etc. The Americans, however, decided [View Full Entry]

Employed in Europe

 Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
Hello all! Today I have officially become an employee of the European Union. I got an email the other day about teaching English, and I met with the woman today , and we chatted about it. The requirements were you had to be a native speaker of English and you had to speak German. Check. I now am employed as "ein Englischsprachtrainer," an English language instructor. I start next week! Typically I'd be teaching people in and around Graz, and I might get some private instructions [I even get a key to the pl [View Full Entry]

This way.
It's been a pretty eventful weekend on this side of the world. After spending a pretty low-key Friday afternoon of cleaning and sitting around, I went out to dinner with Libor and Thomas. My first week here, I'd gone to a pizza place with a group of international kids, including my friend Elizabeth, and since then, we've been trying to find it again. While Libor, Thomas, and I were trying to decide what and where we wanted to eat, Thomas suggested pizza, as he knew a great pizza place in Kaiser Josef Platz. The lightbulb immediately clicked in my head, and [View Full Entry]

I took this picture on a door by my Czech classroom. I was excited because I thought I'd found a mistake, (die Tuere + a singular verb, muss), but then I found out that Tuere is the dialect form of T... [more]
Hello all, I realize it's been kind of a while since we last spoke, and have heard that there are some complaints over on that side of the ocean. Who knew my audience was so captivated by my every word? Maybe I should pursue a writing career... Since we last spoke, a lot of has happened, which is why I haven't had time to update on here. As you know from my last post, I am officially accepted to l'Università degli Studi di Pavia, in Italy, about 20 minutes outside of Milan. This sort of threw me for a loop, 'cause [View Full Entry]
