One last time...
Here it is, the one I've been dreading, the one to end this wild ride. It's hard for me to believe that I'm leaving Graz in 7 hours, and won't be soon returning. It's truly leaving home to go home. The last few days, weeks, months, I don't think I could ever put them into words. I've tried my best to keep you guys updated, to share my experiences with you, but even then, my words often fell short. I've seen sights of breath-taking beauty, I've been startled by scenes of bruteness. I've found myself in several sticky situations, and somehow [View Full Entry]

We took pictures of this map so that we at least had something if we couldn't find a regular map that we could have with us.
Hi all! I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to update, things here have been a whirlwind, and I've had hardly enough time to sleep. On Wednesday, June 17th, Libor and I celebrated the approaching summer by waking up at 5:30 in the morning. Weird, huh? Well, we scadaddled to the Hauptbahnhof, where we purchased our tickets, destination: Ljubljana. For those wondering, you pronounce it Luh-yoo-bluh-yana. It's the capital of Slovenia, that tiny little country with which Austria shares one of its borders. Anyways, we pulled out of Graz at 6:30am, arrived in Maribor at 7:30am, had a half [View Full Entry]

We had one of the worst storms I've seen yet in Graz, where the square next to my building was struck by lightning, and afterwards there was a double rainbow, which I'd never seen before.
Greetings, I have two adventures to inform you about, so buckle up. Last Sunday, I had a pretty "Slovakian" day, as I went for a day trip to a little city about a half-hour north of Graz, named Frohnleiten. I went with Lubo, with whom I'd gone to Salzkammergut, Lucia, and Mirka, all from Slovakia. We drove up with our friend's car, as he was in Spain and had left the car to Lubo, and got a little lost along the way. Anyways, we arrived in the beautiful, but deserted, city of Frohnleiten, which two or three years ago had won [View Full Entry]

It's about time I get into gear and update this old thing again! This semester has been full of days off and extended weekends, as the Austrians are not the biggest fans of effort and work. Thus, last weekend, we had one of our many four day weekends. After lots of planning and the threat of cancellation due to the weather, Libor, L'ubomir (Slovakia), Veronika (Czech Republic), Bénédicte (France) and I set out on our adventure to Western Austria, not too far from Salzburg. Destination: Salzkammergut. Considered the most beautiful area of Austria, we went with high expectations. Satur [View Full Entry]

The Wine Region Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
Hi all, I've been meaning to update this for a little now, and have only just had time. Last weekend was a 4-day weekend, so on Thursday, a group of 10 of us went on a little excursion to South Steiermark, to the wine region. There's not really much to say about it, mostly just pictures to show. On the trip there was me, Libor, Martyna, Agata, Thomas, Anouck, Mio, and three friends from Austria, David, Yanbo, and Milena. We made a huge tour of the major wine roads , and actually ended up in the highest place in Europe for [View Full Entry]

This is the neighboring mountain of the one we climbed. We were all very optimistic at this point, and excited for our little hike.
Happy Mother's Day! We're now about to hear about Matthew's adventures hiking in the Alps! My friend L'ubomír from Slovakia had some friends coming to town this weekend, so he asked a few of us if we wanted to go to Baerenshuetzklamm, a really cool place to hike about 40 minutes north of Graz. We all said yes, and so yesterday morning at about 11am, two cars pulled out of Graz and headed north to Mixnitz, a small village in the mountains. On the trip was: L'ubomír + 3 friends , me, Libor, Jana , Jevgenij [ [View Full Entry]

Welcome to Berlin
Greetings all, It's come time for me to update this old thing about my Easter adventures, and I have lots to say and only so much desire to write so much, so no time to dilly dally, let's get the ball rolling. On Friday, April 3rd, Libor, Jana , Ivan , and I drove to Vienna with our friend Jevgenij , where he dropped the four of us off, and we spent the afternoon in Vienna. We went to the Schönbrunn Palace where we hung out, people watched, and enjoyed the suddenly warm weather that struck Austria. [View Full Entry]

Little bit of nature in the heart of the city.
Greetings all, Since I haven't written on here in a while, I'm certain my avid readers are chomping at the bit. Anyways, tonight is the night that begins my Easter vacation and adventures. The last few weeks since Rachel left have been insanely busy, as I have so much work to do this semester, what with having many more classes than last semester. I have classes in 3 languages outside of German, which is also a challenge, and then the last week was spent doing at least 6 hours of research a day about the Russification of Finland in the 1800s [View Full Entry]

Greetings all, It's been a bit since I've updated this thing because I've been all over the place this past week with none other than Rachel Greene and Michael Banks on their maiden voyage to Europe. Since it's been a while, I'll catch you up on some things. On March 2nd, we started school here, our summer semester. So far, my classes all seem pretty interesting, and, if you're wondering, these are what they are: Monday: Sprachen der Welt ; a general overview of the major language families, linguistics, etc., basically all stuff I already know but interesting [View Full Entry]

Hej hej! Jag är nu i Österrike efter ett underbara vecka i Sverige! In other words, hello! I'm now in Austria after an awesome week in Sweden! Let's not beat around the bush, but get right to it. Tuesday morning at 4:30 in the morning, I was up and on the go. For all you on the East Coast of the USA, that means that it was only 10:30pm for you of the night before. Let's think about this: I had an entire day, went to bed, slept 3 hours, and got up and had an entire other day, and you [View Full Entry]
