Four countries, two days, more walking than you can imagine. It's a beautiful thing. Monday morning, Libor and I were at the train station at the ungodly hour of 5:30am to catch our train at 5:45. At about 10 we pulled into Salzburg, though we were late in catching our connecting train since we weren't travelling with ÖBB , but die Deutsche Bahn. Let us be a little prejudiced, ok? We've lived in Austria for almost 6 months now, of course there's animosity between us and Germany :) Anyways, after waiting a half-hour in Salzburg, we boarded the train, took a [View Full Entry]

Lazy Days in Graz Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
Anybody understand that? One more time: I thought that I've been in Austria now for more than 5 months, so you all should understand German well, because I've learnt so much. How'd it be if wrote to you all in German? Good, right? I think so. Alright, maybe not. Anyways, since your eyes last grazed this page, hanging [View Full Entry]

Sweet, Sweet Vacation Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
Servus, It’s a snowy Groundhog Day’s morning, so I figured I should let you all know that happyhaps here, and also say Happy Birthday to Rachel. Since we last spoke, it has been an absolutely crazy few weeks here in Österreich. The semester officially ended on Friday, the 30th, and with that came weeks of exams and minimal sleep and everyone freaking out [about 25% from having our exams in German, and about 75% because a lot of the people were heading home]. One night right in the heart of exams, ESN decided to throw a going away party at one [View Full Entry]

Greetings all! I know it's been kind of a while since I've written, so I'll try to catch you up on what's been going on. The squirrel (aka Julie) left last Wednesday at the crack of dawn in Vienna. We pretty much just hung out for the week in Graz, and she got to meet my friends here. I took her down to Slovenia for a day, and then she also got a crash tour of Vienna the afternoon before she left. I ended up taking the train at 5:50 in the morning on Wednesday back to Graz, arriving at about [View Full Entry]

Greetings all. I'm back in Austria after an exhausting but fun 9 days in Italia. Since Julie is currently sitting on my bed and most likely very, very bored, I'm going to skip the pleasantries and get right to it. After spending two of the most depressing days in Graz ever (the city was literally EMPTY, nobody was in my apartment, I had nobody to play with, it was sad), I caught the train at 8:30 at night and headed south, destination: Florence. After 10 long hours on the train with various co-travelers in my compartment, I finally knew I was [View Full Entry]

You're perhaps wondering what the title of this blog means, "Láska." That, ladies and gentlemen, is the Czech word for LOVE. Because I am in LOVE. And her name is ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA. I have found my absolute, uncontestable favorite land in Europe. Also, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! So, let's get right to it. On Thursday, the 18th, Libor and I woke up at the crack of dawn (after going to bed at the crack of dawn) to catch the train to Vienna. We had decided to go up really early so we could spend the entire day there trying to see everything for [View Full Entry]

Payback is Sweet Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
I'm not sure if I've already told this story, so you'll get to hear it again. One night last week, I decided to take a shower. I know, you're shocked. Kristy is probably squealing with glee about making a joke that I'm dirty or gross or should shower more often. I know you too well. Anywho, the lightswitch for the shower-room is outside of the room, so we like to play a game in my apartment of, "make so and so take a shower in the dark." It usually only lasts for a few seconds, maybe a minute , before the [View Full Entry]

The First Wave Begins... Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
It's a pretty sad time right now in Graz. Yesterday was most people's last day of school before our Christmas vacation, mine included, so now I'm officially on break until January 6th. For most of the Americans here, it was their last day of European school ever. Since our university schedule in the US is so far off from the rest of the world's, the American kids staying here only for a semester have to leave in the coming weeks to be back in the US for spring semester. Since I don't hang out with any Americans really, it doesn't really [View Full Entry]

Greetings all! I am writing on the afternoon following my arrival from the beautiful, though small, Italian city of Salzburg. Now I know you're probably a little confused by this statement and thinking that Salzburg is in Austria nearly on the borders with Deutschland and Frankreich, and you'd be right in assuming so, but, I must tell you, it might as well be Italian. I don't think I've ever seen more Italians in my life, and I spent a week in Italy with Hillary. The entire city was flooded with Italians, and people would talk to us first in Italian and [View Full Entry]

Salzburg is Knocking! Europe » Austria » Styria » Graz
I'm writing to you on the eve of my department to the one, the only, Salzburg, Austria! And it now occurs to me that it's almost midnight, we're catching the train at 8am tomorrow, and I have yet to pack. Oh well, might as well waste some time on this. Been pretty lowkey since we last spoke, just doing work and hanging out. Officially skipped my second class in my entire college career today. A big group of us last night went to the Kunsthaus where we've been known to Salsa dance on Saturday nights. I know, I know, you're certainly [View Full Entry]
