You Can't Come Home! Hi Guys,
Though we miss you, we must insist that you continue your extended trip - we will not be able to do without your wonderful blogs! What a lovely read. Every time you go somewhere exciting it is as if you have taken us along on your journey. Enjoy the last few weeks.
Cheers
Joe
We have to come home, there's no cheese here Thanks Joe! Does a trip to Whytecliffe count as travel? It involves crossing a bridge...
Looking forward to seeing you very soon!
Such contrasts! What a perfect holiday--except for the little details of dengue fever and typhoons! Once again, I'm so touched by your ethical decision not to support tours that harm the environment/wildlife--here the whale sharks. Too often, people so want photos that they allow guides to grab, herd, catch and endanger wild animals. Perhaps the big turtle sensed your goodness, and that's why s/he came to check you out. I love that you could have your own pools and waterfalls and walk on real trails just by walking further from the hordes--rewards everywhere. Great photos, as usual!
Thanks Tara! It seems that authorities in Oslob have been doing a better job of regulating the whale shark feeding industry in order to minimize harassment and educate the public. That's definitely encouraging and should be lauded, but it still wasn't the experience we wanted for our first whale shark encounter, especially when there was so much else to see on and off the reef!
Only you can steal my trademarks!!! Cant wait to hear about your, well I wont say trip because you were gone for like a year so...I cant wait to hear about the last 3% of your life you just spent in amazing places...might be a long pub lunch!!!
Underwater Philippines We are enjoying your trip and especially your underwater photos. We are divers and it reminds us of our diving in this beautiful country.
Thanks guys! We came here to do freedive training and were pleasantly surprised at how nice the reefs are. I'd heard stories when I was younger about cyanide and dynamite fishing, but that doesn't seem to be the case, at least not in Moalboal. There is a lot of fishing pressure so not very many large fish around, but the reefs are quite nice.
Hope to see you soon What a lovely blog - we almost feel sad for you to leave Vietnam and Sri Lanka - you brought it to life for us. I can't wait to spend some time there in the future.
Enjoy your month of free diving and safe travels back home.
Joe
Looking forward to green water Hi Joe!
Thanks for the lovely comment. We look forward to seeing you all and hearing about the Bay!! I wish we could be there to cheer you guys on but we'll raise a glass of beer to you on the day instead.
Hilarious Kristin, all the outdoor restaurants and cafes use these little red chairs and tables and everytime Matt sat down it cracked me up. I finally had to take a photo. It's funny after all these months in SE Asia we are used to looking at Asians so whenever we see a tourist we're both "He's so big! Look at the size of him!"
Reveling in the present Loved that you two stayed in Hoi An long enough to meet neighbors, make friends, and see a rice cycle. So wise too, to try to understand and adopt a rather Buddhist, accepting attitude toward things that are so different--those crazy (or at least different from our) roads, creepy crawlies and weird (for us) foods and dog eating. And oh, to have that mellow, Vietnamese driving approach to life--what a gift!
Matt and I met while we were both traveling in Puerto Rico in 1998. He worked on a research site in El Yunque Rainforest on the main island and I worked as a divemaster on Vieques.
After 10 years living a settled existence in Vancouver, Canada, we felt a real need to get back to traveling. So we sold our house, put our stuff in storage and set off in search of great places to freedive and new adventures.
Right now plans are to explore SE Asia until we feel the call to move on...... full info
Around the world eventually

Great photos
Enjoyed looking through these photos. Hanging out of those old, clunky Sri Lankan trains is a fantastic feeling.
