Family!! Great to see you reunited with family - what a treat!! And I hope our treat is coming this Saturday when we see you at our place. What a great trip you've had - thanks for sharing. M xx
Pricky Pear Loved the photo of you with the prickly pear Martha which as you know is a real scourge here in Australia. And this recent adventure looks very interesting - good to see you are still educating yourselves and us along the way! M xx
caves was amazed you can walk through the caves without a guide, don't people try and nick a bit of
the stalactites ? I am sure they would here at Jenolan, how come there was coffee down there or
was that when you came out ?
Crumbling! Fantastic pics once again and some interesting info! You'll be real experts on 'old things' by the time you get back to these shores!! As I'm always saying "the more you learn the more you realise you don't know". M xx
Mesa Verde Looks just like it did in 1975.
Awesome, especially if one is into masonry.
Thanks for the memory-refreshing tour.
Your travelogue saves the rest of us petrol money.
Love, PTY
Hey Martha and Phillip,
I am enjoying your adventures. Bec and I have booked into the hotel you stayed at in the theatre district in San Fran . Mithilia ? I have given Sky my number so we can catch up when he is over here in Australia.
Montezuma Castle National Monument On our 2001 trip we didn't actually get to Camp Verde but we did get to Montezuma Castle National Monument which is close by. The cliff dwellings at Montezuma were built by the Pre-Columbian Sinagua people around 700 AD with the last known occupation around 1425 AD. Several Hopi clans trace their roots to immigrants from the Montezuma Castle/Beaver Creek area. Possibly you are headed that way since it's so close. Thanks for these fabulous pictures and stories - the more you see places like this the more you realise that those who lived in the long gone past were not so far removed from us as all the talk of modernity would have us believe. M xx
Wonderful! This is amazingly wonderful. It made me want to cry! I do not know why? A forgotten people? So much skill! Thank you for sharing it with us. Imagine did n't even know about it. Norma
Grand Canyon Lodge Like you, despite the cost, the last time we visited the Grand Canyon we decided it would be nice to stay at the Lodge. We did manage to get a nights accomodation there - it wasn't a long weekend so that no doubt helped. Maybe next time for you?!
And were you, like us (I'll rephrase that..me) tempted to buy some Indian jewelry and dream catchers from those selling their wares along the road? I must wear my necklace and ring next time we meet.
I'm loving your travels - it's like doing it all over again!! M xx
breathless can understand why you were breathless, we have been 11,000 feet for a week and kept waking up to puff air
at 2 a.m. Adored the photos, how does that tree survive, with the roots exposed ?! Loved the Hoodoos. You
would love Sydney weather right now, cool and beautiful, hope we can have a photo showing when you get back,
Peter hasn't seen these, our computers are seperate and I can't catch him. Robyn.
Travel blog Hello Martha,
I am enjoying your blog immensely. And those pics of Yosemite (aka Yosemight?) were just stunning. Glad to see there are a couple in my inbox this morning.
See you when you return,
Colin
Bryce & Zion Both great places to visit I agree. But for us Bryce was the most awe inspiring - like you we took numerous photos because it's so hard not to!! M xx
Thank you! Martha Phil,
Thank you for the pleasure this brings. I read everyone and check out the larger photos also on more...
Martha there si a Helath Company in USA Illinois called Baxter. They want to help us with the money to do DVD making with our pregnant Aboriginal women. It will come through half way through December so we can start in february 2011.
We will have accommodation in a new building int he grounds of Lewisham Hopital. Much love, Norma
The windy road!! I well remember the road into Mammoth Lakes when we drove there in 2001 - we were trying to coast downhill as much as possible since we were almost out of petrol and didn't know how much further we had to go until we finally found a garage! But of course we lived to tell the tale and never did run out of petrol either. I know you're going to adore the rest of your travels in that vicinity. Do you have an American National Parks Yearly Pass? We bought one because it worked out cheaper than paying to enter each National Park seperately. Then when we later travelled to NZ before the pass was invalid we gave it to a young English couple who were travelling on to the States on their way home. So I'm pleased to say it gots lots of use!! M xx
Interview with a Park Ranger I think your readers will enjoy this site. Check out MEET ME AT THE CORNER (www.meetmeatthecorner) and the interview with the Park Ranger at Balboa Park in San Diego, California.
Children learn about the history of Balboa Park, the Pan America Exhibition and the work of a park ranger. Take a look at the upcoming shows for fall including a visit with author Kathleen Krull, an episode about the history of the banjo and just in time for Veteran's Day, an interview with a World War II Veteran
Along with the original content created by the professional staff, MEET ME AT THE CORNER is open to kid- produced content. The current video was submitted by 11 year old Sam. He interviews an animal behaviorist at the Denver Zoo. It is obvious that the episode was written and filmed by Sam but the MMATC staff did a great job of editing and adding photos and links to take the episode to a new level
MEET ME AT THE CORNER, Virtual Field Trips for Kids (www.meetmeatthecorner.org) is a series of educational video podcasts for kids ages 6-12. New episodes are uploaded every two weeks, with a Learning Corner of questions and extended activities, a list of recommended books and links to fun websites about each topic.
This is a great website for kids, parents, teachers and homeschool families.
alls well Loved the pics, you will be very fit when you get back to Oz, will need to get a dog now to keep up the walking,
havn't contacted Lucien, thought he might think a bit boring having dinner here, tell him to pop in if he needs anything. Fathers Day here today, so lots of food and cake, Andrew's Chaser show completed , has been asked
to do stint on "Top Gear ", is not interested in cars so guess he will come last. Weather lovely here, felt sorry
for you in 40 degrees, glad there are still seals, I remember them at the wharf, a kid here was attacked this week
by one at the zoo (bet it was the kids fault. ) luv Robyn.
Thanks for mentioning us! Hey, it was great to see both of you, after such a long hiatus. You both look and sound wonderful. Sorry it was so hot while you were here. After a few days of more Arctic weather, the hot spell has returned with a vengeance. I'm doing Back to School Night at my school in Burlingame, where the temps are supposed to top in the nineties tomorrow (maybe the fog will come in in the late PM; I'm keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed. No A/C.
Anyway, I noticed that the name of my Balkan singing group and the web address were missing on your blog--if anyone is curious or wants to listen to sound clips, it's: http://www.borntodrone.org. Or just google "Born to Drone" and you'll find us, among other crazy references to bagpipes and vacuum cleaners...
Owen works at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. You don't want to get on the Dept. of Energy's bad side!
Hope the rest of your trip is jolly and enjoyable! Come by any time you're in the neighborhood,
Barbara (and Owen, if he knew I was writing this...)
SFO cable trams We waited for the cable car - too many hills. But riding the cable car is an audience participation sport, isn't it? What with people jumping on and off on either side of the cars and trying to dodge paying a fare! Loved it!
Colin
Are yu done now?
Is this your final stop or are you on permanent tripping? Nice to be with family, eh?
Van Mollison suits you. May the fun never end!
-- Walzolo
