Brisbane to Port Douglas return
a trip by Marg and Rob Humphrey
From: October 22nd 2012
Until: November 22nd 2012
This trip was planned to coinside with friends (Rach & Rusty) visiting Port Douglas from Wellington. So we extended the time to cover the Total Eclipse on 14 November before heading back to Brisbane.
Along the way we visited Undara. This is a volcanic wilderness, savannah style, with a variety of lava tubes to explore and ridges to climb. This was a real highlight of the trip. If you haven't been there - GO!
We had never seen a total eclipse of the sun, so that was another highlight despite the passing clouds.
Paronella Park was another great stopover. For those with caravans or motorhomes, the day entry to the park gives you one nights free accomodation as well. We like free! This park is great at night. Camera and Tripod are a must.
Nature provided many more highlights such as the Butterfly sanctuary at Kuranda, the Habitat Sanctuary at Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge, the Emu family that wanted to cross the road etc.
