From Belorado we walked to Ages - about 27kms. The walking is finally getting easier! It was a gorgeous walk. Raining and foggy, but nice not to be able to see more than 100 or 200m´s in front of us for a change. Rather than seeing the miles and miles we need to walk. I walked most of that day with Mirkosch, we talked about what we considered to be the big problems of the world and how things could and should be better. It was a really interesting conversation - well, at least we thought so. We definitely decided that being close to nature and keeping life simple is a good way forward. We also talked alot about Germany´s history and how things are in Germany now - mainly with the war and the wall ... read more

A day of walking in the rain. It wasn´t raining too hard, just enough to keep one cool - nice. I walked by myself most of the day today. It was good. Lots of thinking time. Walked 24kms to Belorado - a cute little town with a population of around 2,000. Tonight we are staying at the Albergue de Pereginos "Cuatro Cantones" (c/ Hipolito Lopez Bernal a.10, 09250 Belorado (Burgos) - ph 947580591. It´s cute and small. €5 to stay and €3 for breakfast. ... read more

So, all my notes from the 13th September disappeared from my iphone today - totally bummed. And I can´t be bothered writing them out again. So, the plan now is to do a quick summary of the last three days. From Rio del Torres we headed to Logrono. Up early, it was a five hour walk, so not too arduous. Yesterday, from Logrono to Najera - nearly 30kms, and today to Santo Domingo - about 21kms. Everyone is starting to look and feel very worse for wear now. I had no idea this trip was going to be quite this hardcore physically!!! Marcos had to head back to Logrono when his back started playing up - hopefully he´ll meet us later on. And we left Robert in Najero today - he had to stay and rest ... read more

Saturday 11th September After dinner last night I played cards with the German crew. It was their version of UNO. Quite fun! A good way to learn a few German swear words. What a night! It was a little hard to sleep with Marco snoring so loudly all night. One of the joys of room sharing! After breakfast we headed out by the light of a beautiful sunrise.  I started walking with Armando and Marco. As usual there was a lot of talking and laughing. It constantly amazes me that we are so perky first thing in the morning. It's great how I'm able to notice so much more around me these days. We saw alot of snails on the plants beside the path and we also noticed a couple of snails racing on the path. Things I ... read more

Up early again this morning. We had breakfast at the Refugio this morning. What a treat! It was wonderful, we got served and the food was great! Such a change from eating on the road. We left Pamplona about 7, it was still dark and we headed out by the Citadel, it was beautiful. Me and Armando fell behind everyone else quite early on, which was perfect as I wasn't really that keen on walking with a big loud group. It was a perfect day, we just walked and talked. It was mostly through beautiful Spanish countryside to start, then we started the uphill trek. At the top we met the others and they told us they had booked a Refugio at Puenta la Reina with a swimming pool and then they carried on walking. At ... read more

Thursday 9th September: Woke up about 5.30am this morning. Tried to sleep, but awake is awake for me these days so I got up and started getting ready for the day ahead. I am mostly sleeping in the clothes I am going to wear the next day so getting ready is not too arduous.  Just the usual - cleaned my face and teeth, packed up my bag, and had a bite to eat.  Well had a few bites to eat of everyone else's food - Robert gave me a couple of biscuits and Marco gave me half of his croissant. Everyone is so lovely and sharing here. In that spirit I gave Tobias a pair of earplugs that I had spare because he didn't have any.  Amazing how awake and sharing we all are so early ... read more

I think I heard people up from around 5am this morning. Around 6am beautiful classical music started playing (a nice way to wake up) and then the lights went on (not such a nice way to wake up). So, that was it, up, dressed and then we hit the road. This time it was, me Oberto, Armando, Marco and Perry. It was very dark when we started and we walked through a forest. It would have been scary if I was on my own. About an hour in we stopped at a cafe for breakfast. Then, once again, it was walking, walking and more walking. We don´t really stop to much along the way - just to do things, like change socks, or fix our loads. Met a lovely mother and daughter combo from South Africa. ... read more

Had a wonderful afternoon wandering around Bayonne. Everywhere I looked was beautiful stunning architecture. And the fact that it's all so old and yet still so elegant adds a certain magic to the place. I started out just wandering the streets and came across the Cathedral of our Lady of St. Mary. Walked around the outside to the cloisters and then rather accidentally came across the entrance to the Cathedral. I feel so lucky that I did - it showed the value of taking things slowly and looking out for those opportunities that do resent themselves when you're taking notice.  I think it might be the most beautiful Cathedral I have ever seen! Amazing stained glass windows and lots of gorgeous shrines around the outer area. I came across the shrine to Mary and just felt ... read more

Final night in London last night. Vicky and I got glamoured up and headed out for dinner. We went to Ping Pong at Waterloo. What a brilliant spot - a very trendy dim sum restaurant. Food was great! Service was interesting, and we were on a share table, which was totally fine. I was pretty exhausted - it's taken me a while to get over the jetlag and we'd had a pretty huge day!! After dinner we did a quick walk along the Southbank - could see Big Ben and the London Wheel - very nice. Up reasonably early this morning. Vicky walked me to the station, where I trained to Clapham Junction and then on to Gatwick. Major ques at the airport, but luckily met this very fun Australian chick and we chatted all the ... read more

Thursday night after my much needed nana nap I headed over to Richmond to catch up with Sabrina. Caught the train from Clapham Junction to Richmond - once again, too easy! We went to the Pitcher and Piano for a drink - sat out on the deck in the evening sun, by the river. Once again, I'm feeling surrounded by glamourous people - some of the girls had on the coolest dresses! We then went to a lovely french restaurant for dinner. It was brilliant. Vicky met us at the restaurant and we (me and Vicky) caught the tube back to Clapham South, and walked back to the flat. It is quite surprising, but it feels really safe wandering around at night. On Friday I went to Canary Wharf with Vicky. We caught the underground in ... read more
