This one photo needs an entry just for itself. As the trip progresses, I will try to update this page more and more with photos of the driving conditions, but to start this one photo speaks for itself if you look closely. Driving in Mexico, as I have quickly learned is an adventure within itself. First off, Mexico has more speedbumbs then I have ever seen...pinches topes! They are not always the small ones either, there are all types here: large, tall, short, metal circles, etc. So that is one problem especially at night in the dark! Another concern is [View Full Entry]

This was our second stop of our weekend trip, Real del Monte (de Mineral or Mineral de Monte back in the day and with the nickname "El Real"). My Lonely Planet book doesn't give this small town enough credit. This is one of the best reasons to travel with locals because they take you to the hidden gems of their country. It is worth a visit. Even the website states the truth, Pueblos Magicos/Magical Towns. I did just find a website address for the town http://www.el-real.com. Real del Monte is a very small town approx. 2 hours outside of Mexico [View Full Entry]

Carlos and I took a long weekend trip with his Uncle Richard and Aunt Claudia. Our first stop was to Teotihuacan, the archaeological zone 50 km outside of Mexico City. We started our trip from Chilpancingo and drove through Mexico City before arriving in Teotihuacan. People that live in Mexico City are called Chilango(s) or Chilanga(s). Anytime you have to drive near, through or around Mexico, as it is called by the Mexicans, one must be prepared for an adventure. It can take hours to drive near, through or around Mexico. We were lucky this time as we started our [View Full Entry]

After spending a beautiful day at the beach, it finally happened ~ after more than 12 years of international travel and 20 countries ~ a theft occurred. Carlos and I enjoyed a day trip from his home town to Acapulco, but the day did not end as we had hoped. We enjoyed the entire day at the beach and it wasn't until around 5:00 p.m. that we turned our back from our cabana for minutes. In an instance both of our bags, containing everything we had come to the beach with, including many other important items for an international trip [View Full Entry]

As I told you in the previous entry, we visit the market every day. I have been to many markets in different countries, but they are still fascinating to me. Every city, town, pueblo, etc. has a market and you can buy anything you want. Theses markets are more like mini malls, but obviously all outdoors and made of large sheets of plastic. We just picked up a small screwdriver the other day right after and right next to the fruit we bought. The San Francisco Market is where we go here in Chilpancingo. The attached photos are from the [View Full Entry]

Four days after we arrived to Mexico we celebrated my birthday. The morning of my birthday was kicked off with Carlos and his father blowing off firecrackers for at least 5 minutes outside of the home. I was sound asleep and was convinced there was a horrible crash outside when I heard the almost deafening sound. This is very common in small Mexican towns. Carlos organized a grand party for me at his parents home. The party was to start around 8:00 p.m., but you have to remember we in are Mexico so really the party started after 9:00 p.m [View Full Entry]
