As promised here is our Yosemite blog. As we write this we are driving from Auburn, CA as far as we can (probably somewhere around Salt Lake City). We arrived at Yosemite on Sunday afternoon. After checking into the campground and finding our site we decided that we needed to head over to the general store to purchase an additional tarp since they had had about three days of straight rain. After getting the tarp we setup camp. Setting up in Yosemite wasn’t as easy as the other places we had camped so far. As each of the sites had a [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone! We have spent the last few days at Yosemite National Park. It was really awesome. No cell phone or e-mail. Mist trail was incredible and the weather was the best we have had. Today we went white water rafting. We attached a few pictures from that to show you. Click on the individual photos for a larger view. Pete is in the front seat and will be on your left (right side of the boat) and Culver is right behind. Tomorrow morning we hit the road heading east. We are keeping this entry short and sweet but will update [View Full Entry]

Hello from Wine Country! We spent a very rainy weekend in Napa Valley, but thats ok as we learned they were 10 inches behind on the rain they need for the season. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn - Marriot in American Canyon, very recommendable. On Friday we started off with a free tasting at Bouchain Winery. They were very proud of their location as they get the ocean breezes keeping their grapes warm and cool depending on the season. This is very important for the acids, tannins and sugars to develop producing great pinot noirs and cabernet ('cab is king' [View Full Entry]

Hello from Alcatraz! Last night we took our night tour of Alcatraz Federal Prison, but first let me tell you what we did during the day. We went to North Beach for coffee and croissants at Café Grecco. We chose it because it had Italian men having coffee and scribbling on papers, so you know it’s good. We then took a historic street car (this one was from Milan, Italy) to the Ashbury/Haight intersection which is famous for its hippie population. Very Amherst/Northampton/Thayer St.-ish without the exceptional college nearby. Overall pretty clean and smells like incense. But what it [View Full Entry]

We made it to San Fran! Since we have left the Grand Canyon we have been in the woods basically. When we left the canyon our next destination was Big Sur on the Pacific coast of California. It was about a 12 hour drive and we had been camping for three nights and getting ready to camp for another two in Big Sur. We decided to drive as far as we could then stop for the night at a hotel before we made it to Big Sur. We were able to make it most of the way through the desert before [View Full Entry]

Saturday April 25th We made it out to the Grand Canyon 2 days ago. This is the first time we have sat down to get on the internet since we have been here. We are camping while we are here and luckily have had decent but chilly weather. The low tonight is in the high 20’s… We are currently sitting in the cafeteria in the local market place. It is nice, it reminds me a lot of the café from college, as do the camping showers and bathrooms (this is all while I was in the dorms). Culver says the showers [View Full Entry]

Hello! We are spending the night in Kayenta, AZ the gateway to Monument Valley. Last night we stayed in Chinle, AZ home of Canyon de Chelly, a sacred place to the Dineh Navajo people. After checking into our hotel we went and looked around the South Rim drive of Canyon de Chelly. We stopped at the White House ruins overlook and saw the amazing view. The sun was beginning to set so the light in the canyon accentuated all the colors of the cliff walls. We stopped at a few more overlooks which included Spider Rock, the stone tower that we [View Full Entry]

We left Memphis yesterday after visiting Graceland. On one side of Elvis Presley Boulevard is some hideous complex that holds various exhibits including his jets and cars. The war memorabilia of Elvis was worth seeing as it had many little ration and equipment cards, his uniforms and the story of meeting Priscilla. Mostly I thought this side of the street was poorly setup with the main goal of getting visitors to visit all the exhibits seperatly so that you then have to enter one of 13 gift shops. Also, park some where else other than the complex as it appeared they [View Full Entry]

Saturday Night - April 18th Woke up this morning to Elvis music which constantly plays throughout the hotel and had some hotel breakfast (English muffin and what they like to call juice). We showered up and headed into the city. We didn’t really have any plans for many things so we were pretty much winging it. Parked the car by the Mississippi River, really weird but it was free and in a well lit area, good enough for us. We walked up Beale Street which was awesome. They had a Corvette car show which closed down the whole street. We were [View Full Entry]
