Got up and headed for the computer to determine where I would be staying that night. Nova actually helped me search for Hostels. After about an hour of searching I found a Hostel in Harvard, Massachusetts. It was far enough away from Boston that I wasn’t afraid of having to deal with that chaos again. 1-8-07 Left Emily and Jason’s around 9:00 AM. It rained virtually the whole day. Saw a double rainbow in Maine. Bar Harbor is a long way up there. Stopped in Portland at Becky’s diner for lunch. Had a great Haddock sandwich. Maybe the best fish sandwich I have ever had. Enjoyed talking to the people working there. Made it to Bar Harbor around 6:30. Got up and moving around 7. I was anxious to get out of Boston because I was always lossed and the Hostel was a little tough. On the road by 8. Again after getting lossed a couple times and a question asking session I was on the interstate finally. Arrived at White River Junction around 11:30. Had some lunch with Emily and Jason. Wow, I am definitely off the grid at this point. I am in a Boston Hostel. Not sure what to say about it. There’s a billion very unique people. One kid is playing the piano. He is actually very good. He has no sheet music. I am truly impressed by his ability. There are lots of Asians. Parking is costing me $10 / night and the hostel is $35 so it’s not real cheap to say the least. Arrived in Plymouth around 2:30. I asked a police officer how do you get to the rock? I said it a little jokingly and he laughed. I walked down to the rock and looked around. A local said I should walk out on the pier as it is about 1.5 mile walk. I only put an hour in the meter so I needed to keep moving. I ran ½ the way. Got up around 7 and headed for Martha’s Vineyard around 8, which is a little over an hour drive. Since it’s the Winter only one ferry is running at Woods Hole. The boat is cool and holds about 20 cars and lots of people. They charged me $6 round trip to take my bike. Talked to a local plumber who lives on Martha’s Vineyard during the ferry crossing. He has been there his whole life. He said there are more people there now days, but said it is good for guys like him because he gets some of the new resident's [View Full Entry]

Around 9 am on January 1, 2007 I was ready to get back on the road and head to my first Hostel in Newport, Rhode Island. The homes in that area of New Jersey are incredible. I was told they still have fox hunts on horseback and play polo. I guess they have not broken away entirely from the motherland yet. It is very pretty up there. Left Carlyle, IL on December 29, 2006 about 5 hours later than planned, but I wasn't concerned. Time is on my side these days. I guess the Times Square Ball drop however, is somewhat of a deadline.
