In preparing to “GO”, I had many people telling me just how different Ethiopia was going to be compared to America…. And believe me, I saw the differences….. I saw the INTENSE poverty compared to our INTENSE wealth….. I saw their pollution from smog, dust, and trash everywhere…. compared to our CLEAN air and environment…. I saw the absolutely disgusting water supply running through Addis Ababa compared to our water, the cleanest in the world…… I saw children wearing no shoes as opposed to Americans having 10 pairs of shoes….. I saw children walking miles upon miles, hours upon hours to school, as opposed to America who provides bus transportation to every student….. I saw what a privilege attending school in Ethiopia was, compared to us being required to attend school here in America…..I saw how ... read more

I got to go to school today!!!!!!!!!!! It was SO FUN!!!!!!!!!! MOCHA CLUB (the organization I went on this trip with) built a school specifically for a population of children who were being sponsored through Compassion International. This "school" is very nice and very small... 5 classrooms in a row..... The classrooms were concrete blocks...cement floors.... walls were painted a beautiful blue...but there was nothing hanging on the walls...the only thing on the walls was one single chalk board up front.....and the only thing in the classroom besides people were several long benches for the munckins to sit on...there were about 10-15 children in each class (a teacher's dream!!) The YOUNGEST children go to school in the morning (half day of school) and then the older children come in the afternoon (they only go half a ... read more

Today, Jan. 8...we headed to AMBO, which is about 2 and a half hrs. from Addis.... It was SUCH a beautiful drive.... the scenary was unreal..... I just sat, looking out the window in awe at God's creation.... rolling hills and mountains..... dust and green trees.....and huts made of straw...... animals.... just.... beautiful..... and I just sat there listening to Hillsong praise music...... We were heading to AMBO to work with a population of street boys. These boys live on the street, who have literally nothing and nobody to care for them, they are totally and completely outcasted from the town....nobody will serve them, or care for them, or allow them in their store or restaurant.....these boys range from age 7 to 19. This is the 3rd year Mocha Club has worked with this specific population ... read more

Today we visited the Mother Theresa Hospital for the sick, dying, and destitute, and the Mother Theresa Orphanage..... We were totally TOTALLY unprepared for what we were about to see..... I am not sure I can even think of a way to describe it besides it felt like we were in a horror movie..... it was just SO intense and surreal .... We walk in.....and it's a couple HUNDRED men...sitting very close together..... all wearing uniforms with numbers on them...it felt like we were visiting a jail.... we were walking in and the men were on all sides of us and started clapping.... it felt like we were zoo animals... I really didn't like it at all.....looking around I noticed how sick these men were....... imagine the sickest, most crippled person you have ever seen laying ... read more

While spending time with the Women At Risk (WAR) in Nazaret, I was humbled by hearing these girls testimonies and the things they had been through, why they ended up in prostitution, and how they were rescued out.... it was incrediably intense....sitting in a room, face to face with SUCH A YOUNG, beautiful young lady as she fails to hold back tears .... here is just a glimpse of two girls stories..... KALIE'S STORY - Her mother and father were not from the same tribe, so after having 6 children, they were forced into a divorce. Because of this, her mother had no job...so she started to collect wood and bundle it up for Kalie to sell everyday in the market to try and make a living. Her mother got to the point that she could ... read more

Worshipping Christ.... wow...do these women take that to a whole new level for me... I don't think I have words to describe being part of worshipping with these women at WAR... Each girl is singing as LOUD as possible, holding NOTHING back..... clapping, dancing.....just SHOUTING to the Lord..... I swear...if this is even a GLIMPSE of what Heaven is going to be like... I can't WAIT to get there....... I just stood there with my eyes closed taking it all in....and God gave me this vision.... We were on one of the desert plains of Africa.... TONS of people were singing and dancing and praising Jesus... They were in a circle....and Jesus was in the middle..... And I was dancing with Jesus.... to the beautiful sound of their voices..... And everyone was smiling and just so ... read more

We have now spent time with the "Women At Risk" in Addis Ababa and the women in Nazaret..... wow...these women are amazing.. I don't even know how to explain this... but I will do my best... The 4 boys on our team read the story of Jesus washing feet and instucting us to wash each others, and then one of our AMAZING translators SAMSON read it in Amharic.... and when we told the girls we wanted to allow Jesus to work through us to wash thier feet, they squeeled in nervousness and embarassment.... A lot of the women were very nervous and were resisting the idea because they said they were too "unclean" and didn't deserve to have their feet washed..... The boys washed all 39 of these women's feet.... and it was such a beautiful ... read more

Today we had the amazing opportunity to celebrate Christmas with A Hope Orphanage. It wasn't just the little ones there this time, Big A Hope was there as well. In total there were about 140 children there. The ENTIRE yard was decorated! Balloons, streamers, gifts, cake...and the children were SO excited....They were all wearing their "Sunday Best." The young girls ran up to my sister and I and wanted to teach us to dance....so we attempted.... they wanted to be twirled and swung around....It was sweet....one girl just kept telling me over and over that she loved me.....it's sweet...but sad at the same time that she wants love SO bad that she is telling practically a stranger that she loves her.... breaks my heart. The Orphanage had planned an entire program....and different groups and ages of ... read more

Hey everyone! Hope ya had a wonderful New Years celebration!! Congrats Brooke and Jeff!!! YOU ARE MARRIED!!!! My thoughts and prayers are with you!!! I am sure you had a blast! This morning we spent about 3.5 hours at "Little A Hope," which is an orphanage in Addis Ababa that takes care of orphans ages birth-12 who are HIV positive. They are schooled, and given all their ARVT (HIV medication). I was pleasantly surprised when we walked through the door how beautiful and clean and kept the grounds for the orphanage were! As SOON as we walked through the gates, the children were sprinting to us, hugging us, holding our hands, asking us to pick them up, kissing our cheeks, wanting us to throw them around, play soccer, climb on the jungle gym with them, and ... read more
