We made it here safe!!! All the teams bags made it except 2.... it's okay, they will be here tomorrow! So far we are all in good health, and have amazing translators..... Africa smells EXACTLY what I thought it would smell like...... it's weird, but I almost feel like it's a familiar smell even though I have never smelled anything like this before.... I am SO humbled and excited to be here! Addis is so much bigger then I thought it would be.... and there are SO SO SO many people...and SO SO SO much poverty..... driving is a bit scary (crazy really)....and there is SO much pollution and trash..... The people look and live in the exact way we see on TV.... There are random wandering GOATS, DONKEYS and DOGS everywhere!!!! We are staying in ... read more

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8 Selam! So it's 7 am the morning of......our bus is taking us the airport in just a little bit! Then we are ETHIOPIA bound! Last night 11 of my team members arrived late in DC.... It was really exciting to meet everyone. Everyone except my sister and I had flown in so they were all starving.... so off we go...11 of us at 11:00pm.... in 20 degree weather, running through the streets trying to find something that was open...... we ended up in SHOPPERS grocery store... It was kinda cool..... people were checking out...and I was standing there waiting and all of a sudden I realize what ... read more

ASHLEY’s BACK IN AUSTIN!!!!! We drove up an hour from San Antonio jamming to Lady Antebellum, with a picnic basket full of delicious food, on a mission to find a park that overlooked Austin’s skyline…. And look what we found!!!!!! ZILKER PARK!!! We didn’t actually even go into the ZILKER gardens; this was just on the outskirts…. We laid our blanket under a tree on a hill and had this breathtaking view of the city skyline…. We enjoyed the best pasta salad in the world, made by Becca Rain, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made by me!! There was a nice breeze blowing, the sun shining, it was about 100 degrees, and we watched butterfly after butterfly flutter bye……. Everything was so relaxing……except for the fire ants…… they attacked my right foot!!!! OUCH!!!!! I ... read more

Today we had such an amazing day!!! This afternoon we visited the ALAMO and RIVERWALK in downtown San Antonio, and this evening we went to the Tejas Texas Rodeo, which was one of the most fun times of my life!!!! The gardens around the ALAMO were open, so we were able to walk through and learn about the history of the ALAMO. The architecture is so meticulous. “Remember the Alamo” I would share all the “history” I learned about the Alamo, but I am giving you homework to look it up yourself! HA. However, I will say….it would be a really cute place to have a wedding!!! The RIVERWALK….. is so romantic!!! I don’t even have words to explain the adorable atmosphere of this “city beneath the city.” The riverboat rides, the quaint set up, ... read more

I am in SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, with my SISTER MEGAN and BEST FRIEND BECCA RAIN for a week!!! First time we have all been together since last year when Becca Rain got married, and two years before that!!!! I am so thankful for my friendships with these girls…. We all lived together in college, and had some of the most fun times of my life together. I never laugh as hard as I do when I am with Becca Rain and Megan. We have so many memories together….including vacations, scrapbooking together, line dancing, the church house, eating pizza, taking tons of pictures, listening to the same song over and over and over again, watching Friends, “Cinna Stix talks”, puddle jumping, racing Hope Rain up the stairs, crushing on the same boys, burning ceremonies, luring adorable kittens ... read more

My father makes me laugh so much.......Apparently my father is having some hearing issues (but he is in denial)...so it was always so funny to laugh about what he thought we were saying!!!!! haha I am still laughing about him thinking someone was "helping the dolphins", or that I wanted to buy a "hiking shirt".... it was just such a treat when he would repeat what he thought we said... hahaha This last week I had the chance to visit a few of the Carolina Beaches with my parents and sister Brittany Noel!!!! Obviously....sun, sand, surf.... always a good time... these are some of my observations.... MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina, was beautiful!!!….. and by far the MOST crowded beach on the Carolina Coast! Extremely built up, sky rises everywhere… trying to be a “mini Vegas”……lots ... read more

I named my blog “lookin’ for butterflies” because butterflies amaze me. Did you know that there are 24,000 species of butterflies!!!! Did you know….if you break open the chryssalis (I thought it was called a cocoon but according to Nicole Hunsicker I was wrong) the butterfly will not be able to fly…because it is the struggle of breaking open the “chrysalis” that strengthens their wings to fly…. Sort of like… we go through tough circumstances and experiences in our life to strengthen us for what is ahead….. and did you know that butterflies can actually taste with their feet, they surf on wind waves, and the motion of their flutter would be equivalent to a human doing back flip, handspring, front flip, back flip, hand spring, hand spring, etc…. it would be impossible for a ... read more

OH PRAISE THE ONE WHO PAID MY DEBT and RAISED THIS LIFE UP FROM THE DEAD!! Today was another HOT one….105 or something like that!! We spent part of the day at Sunset Beach, NC, and part at Ocean Isle Beach, NC. I convinced my parents it was a GREAT idea to visit every beach in the area so we could check out the entire Carolina Coast! So far we have hit up Wrightsville Beach, Myrtle Beach, Sunset Beach, and Ocean Isle Beach! I will give you a summary on each beach at a later time, once I have visited as many as I could in this short amount of time (yes, we still plan on visiting a few others)! We had lunch at this delicious restaurant called “Giggling Mackerel” in Ocean Isle, NC. I stepped ... read more

I named the baby turtle MOSES!!! He’s so precious check out the picture of the little man!!! My mother, father, and I went out for a walk around the golf course at Brunswick Plantation this morning… and I found myself laughing about the conversation we were having at one point….this is EXACTLY how it went… with no pauses….. and if you know my family at all, you probably won’t be surprised one bit. ME: “Dad….did you know that in Texas, they say a Texas pledge after the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, and they put their hands out like this?” (holding my hands out in front of me cupping them together like I am catching water) DAD: “No I didn’t know that, that’s good, good for them. Did you know when the Constitution is printed there ... read more

I AM SO EXCITED MY SUMMER ADVENTURE HAS BEGUN!!!!! Today I traveled with my parents down to North Carolina.... we stopped in WILMINGTON to eat dinner at the Oceanic with my sister Brittany Noel (she lives in Wilmington)..... and to visit my friend the Beach and Ocean and smell the salty air....... :) We then traveled down to CALABASH, NC, where we will be staying at the "Brunswick Plantation" for the next few days.... CALABASH is RIGHT on the North and South Carolina border.... Since today was a "travel day".... I could get away with saying that not much happened, or that I have nothing exciting to share.... However, today.........God decided to make His creativity, and love, and BIGness VERY obvious to me.... from the numerous butterflies that passed me on the drive, to the MILLIONS ... read more
