After leaving the "wonderful festival city of Suchitoto" it was off to the beach, El Tunco. Nice and sunny, with descent sized waves...too bad there were so many beginners out there (me included), making for dangerous times in the lineup. Sand and sun was blistering hot during the days, with a 10 second time limit on the black sand that wasnīt being cooled by the waves. After relaxing at the beach for a few days and being reunited with the Spanish couple from Suchitoto it was off to Juayua. The day we arrived, the center square was being prepared for [View Full Entry]

Arriving back in La Onion in the early morning hours of Friday the 8th. It was off to Suchitoto, the step back in time, the arts capitol of El Salvador, where every weekend in February people in droves head out of the city to experience the musical performances from global musicians...NOT. Who writes this xxxx!! We arrived to deadness, no signs of a festival except for a few posters around town. No thronging crowd, no step back in time, same old same old, with the garbage to boot. After checking the first hostel which was full, and being told our second [View Full Entry]

What is all that noise? Who keeps trying to break in?? I finally bother to open my eyes to see Chris heading out the door. As it turns out, Chris had food poisoning and had been to that decrepid bathroom next door to our room about 10 times throughout the night for the expulsion of the poison. At first it didn't look like Chris would be moving, but by about 9am he felt well enough to give the boat ride to Isla Meanguera...err Isla Meagre a try. So we head down to the dock with our bags at about 9:15, and [View Full Entry]

Leaving Jiquilillo, it was a long day on the buses starting at 5am. Two buses to the Honduras border, where we were told we could get an express mini bus straight through to El Salvador. Much like the bus me and Mike were told about that was just across the Bulgarian Turkish Border, this bus didnīt materialize either. It was one chicken bus to Choluteca, and then another chicken bus tho El Amatillo, before hopping our last chicken bus of the day to San Miguel for the night. Aside from the pedal taxi who ripped us off for 25 cents, [View Full Entry]

The second day in Jiquilillo, me and Chris headed off down to the end of the road to search out a baseball game, as it is supposed to be a big event. Asking a number of locals on the way, one finally told us to get out here at what looked like an empty field. Why didnīt we just stay on the bus. The game clearly was not on, as the field was devoid of life except for a pig and a few chickens. Down the road we walked till we got to what appeared to be a restaurant. Fenced [View Full Entry]

Another day in Granada hanging with Casey and Darren, discussing Casey's now true color patriots LOL oversome Flor de Caņa and Toņa and and it was on couple buses to Leon. An hour search for Chris's hostel and two more buses later (roughly 10 hours) and we were at the Hostel Rancho Esperanzo in the remote fishing village of Jiquilillo on Nicaragua's Northern Pacific shore. Not many tourists in these here parts. Discovery Channel was out for about a week to do a documentary on Monty's Surf Camp, the only other lodging in the village, a few doors err fields [View Full Entry]

Got a ride to the Monkey Hut, the Bearded Monkeys Hostel on the Laguna. Return trip was $3, and entrance was $6, although for another $4 you could spend the night. They keep the entrance fee at $6 simply to keep the "chill atmosphere" at the Hut. The lake is nice. Much like any lake in Manitoba or Ontario, it's got fresh water with bad viz, and surrounded by trees. The Hut has 3 kayaks, one missing a back rest, tire tubes, a floating dock and plenty of grass for lying around. Me Casey and Darren took off with the [View Full Entry]

On Sunday I got off at Harlem and 125th again, this time walking East, eventually I hopped on the Subway for two stops to Rockerfeller Center where I looked for tickets to SNL. Good thing I didnīt head there for the 6am free ticket call, as the writers are on strike and no tickets to be had. Took me another 30 minutes just to locate a bathroom before heading off to Jackson Hole for some of the best burgers in New York err not, tasted like a lot of chemicalized beef. My meal the night before at Bobby Flayīs Mesa [View Full Entry]

The Journey Begins 4:30 am, and 2 hours of sleep I'm off to the airport. The first flight is full, and I'm stuck in the middle seat. Suppose it didn't matter, seeing as I slept through the flight anyway. The second leg, from Minneapolis to New York, for some reason was surprisngly empty. So upon walking to the back of the plane to my assigned seat, which I insured was an aisle seat, and noticing I had someone beside me, I immediately spoke to the flight attendant to check on my options for switching seats. She said no problem, and [View Full Entry]
