i'm here!! yay, yay, yay!!! what more can i say!! arrived here on monday, i think, and leave on saturday. so i still have another whole day here in paros before i move on to naxos. it is gorgeous - of course. how could it not be. i'm in the greek islands - the thought still makes me giddy. sorry to everyone at home enjoying winter!! have done nothing here except swim and sunbake, which is basically all i planned to do. the water is gorgeous. crystal clear blue with white sand (haven't seen sand since australia). i'm staying at a camping ground right on the beach. i literally walk 20 metres, and i'm in the water. i'm camping, yes, actually in a tent and all. it's quite good actually. not the most comfortable but i ... read more

well, i survived!!! i did the lovely 21 hour ferry trip from ancona, italy to patras, greece. it actually went very well surprisingly. much better than i expected. we had a group of 7 of us and we were pretty early so we stood in line, waiting for our turn to get on the boat. we had a very good set up in our little area, which was actually quite big compared to others. we had the cheapy deck tickets, which means you are outside and you don't have a designated seat. you are actually lucky to get a seat at all. we were in the best place possible on the boat, i think so anyway. we were in a covered area, with a few tables and about 10 chairs between us. it was great fun ... read more

i've now moved on from bern, back to lauterbrunnen and now in lucerne, which is a much bigger city than i imagined. bern was ok. nothing too flash but nice enough. not many people around as they'd all gone away for the long weekend. they had their national day yesterday and nothing was on. parliament house was open for free and that was it. i went (and they gave out free chocolate at the end so i was happy). no parades or performances or anything exciting. i got to lauterbrunnen last night and they had a massive fireworks display which was awesome. it was so strange, because we're in the valley, it was soooo loud and it just kept echoing. switzerland is really nice though. ... read more

arrived in bern this morning. this place is so wierd. maybe it's just me, i don't know. i was walking down the main st at about 10am and there was no one around. this is a major road in the capital city of an entire country and i was the only one around. then i saw two little girls walking with goats on a lead. i know. crazy hey. i have no idea what they were doing but there they were. the rest of my time in lauterbrunnen was good. went on lots of hikes and now my legs and feet are killing me. did a little expedition to a place called grindelwald. very cute. went on the longest cable car in europe. i saw cows with bells around their neck. i was so excited. i ... read more

arrived here last night to a very picturesque area. our campsite is in a valley with towering mountains and waterfalls right next to us. of course, it's gorgeous. nice was good. went to the movies with kate the first night. saw charlie and the chocolate factory with johnny depp. it was awesome. a fantastic remake and they did it really well. johnny depp is really good in it. an amazing actor. saturday we went on a tour and a boat cruise to and around saint tropez. how cool are we. it was amazing day. went to another beach on the riviera (can't remember the name) then onto the cruise looking for famous people. didn't see anyone though. we had dinner (sandwiches on a park bench with all the rich people walking past and looking at us ... read more

sorry about the previous entry's title everyone. you all got a little bit excited but i really was only meaning the towns!!! sorry to disappoint. i will be coming back!! still been having an awesome time over here. it's been very relaxing. except for yesterday when i did the big walk from the first town where i'm staying (riomaggiore) to the fifth town (monterosso) along the coast. it took us about 4.5 hours but it was an awesome walk. an absolute killer because there's about a thousand billion steps but it was definitely worth it for the views. am going to have a recovery beach day today and sunbake on a rock. the boulders are better than the "beach" because you don't have to keep pulling the smaller rocks out of rather uncomfortable places!!... read more

this place is amazing. it is by far my favourite. the beaches are gorgeous - even though they're rocky, i don't care. we got here yesterday and are staying in the first of 5 fishing villages - riomaggiore. we have an apartment for 7 of us and are having a massive cook up tonight with about 17 people. yesterday we dumped our stuff and went straight to the beach for about 6 hours, then went out for a beautiful seafood dinner. i'm in heaven. it was so yummy and so much fun with 13 of us. today we went to the fifth village - monterosso, the sandy one. we hired snorkling gear and had a look around the ocean floor. it was an amazing day. on the way back we kind of got on the wrong ... read more

am here in florence and still loving the hot weather.althoughthe other day there was a crazy thunderstorm and the power went out for about 6 hours in the afternoon!! it was a fun day though. i didn't go in to town that day but lots of people did and came back very wet!! very funny. went in to the city yesterday. just wandered around and went to the duomo and saw the sites etc. it's quite a nice city. much cruisier than rome which is always good. had an interesting bus ride home. i was meant to get on the number 37 - which i did, but sometime whilst i was on it - it turned into the no 36 so i never reached my stop. i asked the bus driver, who didn't speak english, but ... read more

just letting you all know that i'm obviously ok considering i'm not even in the uk. it's all a bit scary though. i know quite a few people in london but fortunately no one was anywhere near any of the blasts. lots of us are going back to work eventually and so far everyone i know is sticking with their plans. the people i was sharing a room with the last couple of nights flew to london today and then they're giong home to melbourne as planned. lucky it wasn't yesterday but i imagine security at the airport will be crazy for them. went to tivoli with caroline yesterday. very nice to get out of rome. lots and lots of fountains at villa d'este. very beautiful. i must say i'm not a huge fan of rome. ... read more
