Thursday - the big day! I’ve been looking forward to this since I decided to make this trip. This is why I have been drinking water all week. Liz and I had a wine expert come to the hotel and charter us all through the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley. Our first stop was literally on the side of the road to take a picture of the vinyards growing in the Adelaide Hills. Then we went to a lookout point very high above the city. The termperature was near freezing and it was starting to rain up there, which made the journey even more exciting. Our first cellar door (tasting room) experience was the Bridgewater Mill Winery, which had a beautiful water mill running outside. We were the only ones there and loved the attention. Sunday - back home. To make our transition back to American life, Ron and I walked down to McDonald’s and had breakfast before heading to the airport. “Bacon” is Canadian Bacon, which is what Ron ordered. I ordered a sausage & egg English muffin. I don’t know what kind of sausage it was, but it wasn’t pork. Ron joked and said it was camel and I lost my appetite. The 13 hour flight to LA seemed a lot longer than the trip over and the LA Airport wasn’t exactly the welcome to America we were looking for. Ron had sigh of relief once we touched down at DFW. As much fun as we had, the Texas accents were refreshing to hear in Dallas. To have been on 8 planes in 8 days, we were lucky that ... read more

Friday - off to Sydney! I was excited that we had an early flight out of Adelaide back to Sydney. The sales meetings were over and now Ron would get the chance to be on vacation and we would get almost a full day on Friday and all day on Saturday to take in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. WRONG! Our flight was delayed, then canceled, then re-scheduled, then canceled again, then consolidated with another flight that had been delayed, canceled and re-scheduled. It was a mess and we spent all day Friday in the Adelaide airport and finally departed around 5:00 that night. The good thing was we were all together and made the best of it. The airline gave us vouchers for $25 worth of any snacks we wanted in the airport ... read more

Monday - after a very long 14 hour flight and six hour layover in Sydney, Ron and I were very dirty and tired. We slept in our clothes on the flight over from San Francisco and were beginning to feel very nasty, but very glad to be on vacation. The rest of the group from Topcon met us at the Sydney airport and we all flew over to Adelaide together. Those guys came from all over the world and I enjoyed meeting them and hearing about where they came from. That was a nice and short hour and a half flight. Once we arrived at the Hyatt in Adelaide, I took a long and needed shower and collapsed on the clean sheets and laid horizontal and fell into a deep sleep, so I missed dinner. Evidently ... read more
