Wow what a wonderful vacation honey-you saw a lot. Good for you girls to get out there in the rain. I hope you are still healthy. I'm glad you are back in Hong Kong safe and sound. Love mom
what did you name those adorable kitties? So Laura, what names did you give your adorable new children? That dark one sure has spunk!!! I hope they let you sleep at night! Thanks for the video - makes me want to stroll next door and drop in on you all..
love you! Aunt Jan
Laura, you are great! Hi, Laura, I had those days just like your "HongKong days" when I first came to the US. I was very pround of myself when the first time I put gas into my car by myself. Yes frustrating, but like you said it is going to be rewording. Girl, you can do it, you will be successful by the end of the year, and you will enjoy your Hongkong life soon.
aw Hi honey,
Actually I wish I could join you teaching in Hong Kong! I am in the most ridiculous situation ever-on a cart-no computer-no desk-no place to work because the closet my things are in has a transformer and no one knows why but others were told not to work there-hmmm is it a health hazard- so close to quitting. I love you and miss you and hey you are not Ashley but you are the best little teacher so give it your all. Love mom
it will go fast! Hey girl!! We went up to see Whit and Pat this weekend and we got to talking about you. Whit told me to go on facebook to see your pics! I love that you are doing this for you! You will become a stronger woman and this experience will follow you for the rest of your life. I tell Whitney the same thing that moving away and all the experiences you have are a small portion of your journey. You will look back on this and realize that you wouldn't change it but it will be such a small portion of your life as time trucks along. Be safe!! We will be thinking of you often! Love Lisa
you are so right about being stronger I have some days like you do, being alone for the first time in my life. It will help you to be ssuch an independent person. i am very proud of you, and love you lots. Grandma
Hi! Good thing you dont have to drive...but I think its equally scary to walk in countries that drive on the other side of the road. It's so hard to to look right, left, right when you have been trained the opposite. Love you girl! So excited to hear about your first year of teaching! :)
I think I actually set up a travelblog account so I can read what you post - yeah! I think I like those late night phone calls the best - good or lousy things to share I don't care. I'm not going to write more, not sure I'm in the right place, still learning. LOVE YOU, Dad!
I can feel your pain Your experience brings back memories of the Philippines-there were always lines to stand in for this and that and sometimes you just wanted to cry because it was so confusing and you just wanted this one thing done. I love your classroom-and I spotted my jewelry store! Becky is having surgery Tues. and so sad today Roxanne said her mom has 3 to 6 months to live. I'm heartbroken. I love you sweetie and so proud of you-you are amazing. Love mom
Thanks for all the love! I am glad you guys enjoy reading about my new life :) The economy here is doing pretty well....our school especially. It is in high demand, we even have a waiting list from when kids are 2 yrs old! I should be on skype later tonight...I'm gonna buy another internet pass. So I am not sure what time that will be for you, Jan, but maybe I will see you on!
Maura- that's so funny you should say that! There is an administrator in the Lower Primary from New Zealand who called it the boot! We just talked about it like 30 min. ago :)
great update! Thanks for starting this blog for those of us not on facebook (I know, I know - the only two people on the planet! :) ). Sounds like a great start thus far...and you are already using all the British terms (flat, mobile, etc. - soon you will put things in the boot and not the trunk! :) ). Much love from Valpo!!!
sending you our love... Sending you lots of love and hugs from hawaii! Hope you get internet and a mobile phone soon so that you feel more connected. It's great to get your blogs - thanks for staying in touch and keeping us informed! There has to be some advantages to being the youngest and newest...capitalize on the opportunities! The school sounds great - apparently Hong Kong economy is doing better than in the U.S... Enjoy the perks!
Love to you
Jan, Brennan, and Tyler
(we skyped your mom and grandma today- let us know when you get set up!)
Welcome to your new home, Laura! Aloha Laura! Wow- your place is very cute, the city is vibrant, you are finding your way around, you have met friends, and you are friendly with those you just met ;-). So glad you are getting settled so quickly! We can't wait to hear about school and work...
So what's the time difference there?
We look forward to all the updates. They might not sound eventful to you, but it's fun to hear about life in Hong Kong, your perspective, and your adjustment to such new and exciting adventures. So, how do you say "hello" and "good-bye" in Hong Kongese...:)
Love you!
Aunt Jan
My name is Laura Lorentzen. I am 23 years old and recently moved from the U.S. to Hong Kong, China. I will be starting my first year of teaching music in a new country. I have signed up for a year of teaching pre-K through 2nd grade, hope I survive! I thought the hard part was moving to a new country....but we shall see. :) I have a wonderful family and friends who have been VERY supportive of this move. I also have an amazing fiancee, who has been extra wonderful about this unique opportunity. I am looking forward to the coming year, with all its new experiences and challenges. ... full info
