Vlad the Impaler! Brigid and Lachlan-
I'm reading "The Historian" right now, which is a story about Vlad the Impaler and the undead. Your pics and commentary added a great visual to all the descriptions in the book! I read a chapter last night about palinka...And believe it or not, the book starts in Instanbul talking about the Hagia Sophia. Very cool!

Pic of wolf and babies it's the She-Wolf and Romulus and Remus. Check out this link. http://www.emuseumstore.com/product/985/160 Probably not the best site for research of course, but you'll get the gist. I've seen similar statues in Italy.
Been enjoying the blog while I sit here at my desk! Can't wait to catch up with you both NEXT YEAR when you get back.
So witty... I must say, I really enjoy the "that's foul" comment made by Brigid...that comment really solidifies her as "The Brain" (sorry Lachlan, I guess that makes you Pinky!). I miss you guys, but I'm glad you're having such fun and seeing amazing sights!
Byzantium What a great pic of the Hagia Sophia, built as the new church of Constantinople during the time of the great Emperor Justinian! What great splendor and beauty. Thank you for sharing.
Lousy joke If you buy the castle in Brand does it come with a life time supply of flakes?
Glad that you found a bottle from Melnic - I spent a happy night there trying to find a meal when the communists were in residence! Ended up cooking my own food in a hotel kitchen - joys of business travel!!!
happy 4th hey B, and Lachlan, happy 4th to you guys, and everyone else. summer is going well, cubs are back on track, look out for us in september! i'll enjoy a bud select today!
Lovely Home for sale in Brasov I was reading the newspaper today like I always do at lunchtime, and I just so happened to see a lovely home for sale. It is located 16miles southwest of Brasov in the village of Bran. It us very historic and sits atop a 200ft rock overlooking the village of Bran. If you haven't picked up on it yet it is Bran Castle. Not saying you have to buy it or anything but it would be one to look at for sure. ;)
The Eyebrow Thing Ok, cleared up the eyebrow question from Istanbul. I was talking to a Portuguese girl last night who lived in Istanbul for a while. She said raising eyebrows just means "no" and it's not rude. I guess they were just all surprised I knew how to do it! :) hehe....
oh yeah, Paul, just had the local Melnic wine tonight at dinner in Veliko Tarnovo!! Good stuff! :)
The bazaar Loved the story about your experience at the bazaar. As americans we are not use to haggling over the price of things. Lachlan your mum would have been is heaven. It would be interesting to know what the raised eyebrow does mean. It was very observant of you to notice that. A strange thought-if someone has a mono eyebrow would it mean something different than two eyebrows?
Enjoying the stories of your adventures. Hopefully you will find cooler weather soon.
cool must say I love the pic of the wee boy...so cute! It's a bit shan tho, eh?! Sounds like you're having a great start to the adventure, well, once youa ctually arrived. Am off to france tomo to avoid the crazy flooding that is Britiain at the mo....
Ho Ho If you think the shop keepers in Turkey are persistent just wait til you get to Cairo!! Glad to hear you're having a good time - watch out fro the wine from Melnic while you're in Bulgaria.
Living vicariously through you! Brigid and Lachlan,
Can't tell you how much I am enjoying your blog! It's nice to be transported from good ol' St. Louie to places like Istanbul...You look as if you are taking it all in! Can't wait for the next one!
Schnippy-schnap WOW! Sounds um... uh.. interesting. I defintaly would not want to be an 8-11 yr old there. No thanks! Or Muslim for that matter.
Glad to hear that you two were not the Americans attacked by the bear in Romania. So is mom for that matter. She called me yesterday (wed 6-27) morning panic-y wondering if I had heard from you cause she hadn't and was worried.
FYI- you guys owe me for this. :-p
Thanks and good luck Glad you made it to edinburgh ok (well I assume you did as Granny and Grandand seem to have got there!) Thanks for all the hard work which helped make the wedding go so well. Ken and Jo are wet and muddy at Glastonbury. Of all the places to choose for a honeymoon!! We got back yesterday after lots of walks and consuming more whale sized fishes at Hope Cove. Good luck with the travel plans. Let us know (sometime) when you will be coming back. Love, Christine

Interesting fact: If anyone asks, I am not 'the brain'
Brigid: yeah, ok, now 29 years old, born and raised in St. Louis, MO (USA), home of Budweiser and Cardinals baseball. Married to crazy, 'out there' Scottish guy for two happy years. Anot... full info
