So much to see & do in Rome! We saw all the Vatican city including the Sistine Chapel. Kev managed to get about 30 photos while the guy called out 'no photos!'. We then made our way to the Colloseum. It was massive and we read about all the Battles that went on there. We had a bit of a walk through town and then went back to the hotel for a rest as we had been up since 5:45am waiting in line to see the Vatican City. Tonight we went back in to town. We had a lovely dinner in the square, listening to a Italian guy play electric guitar. But the night took a turn on the local bus on the way home when a gypsy managed to open my bag and almost got ... read more

On the way to Florence we made a stop at the the leaning tower of Pisa. And of course took the photo of us pushing it over like the other hundreds of people in front of it. In Florence we saw the famous statue of David (Kev was not impressed with his package).... read more

A day of relaxing and a night of drinking in Nice. Beautiful weather so we spent most of the day on the pebble beach (sorry no photos). A massive seafood lunch, a siesta in the afternoon, and a big night with our guide & driver in town. Not to mention the massive hangover the next day!... read more

Europe » Monaco September 19th 2006

After checking in to our hotel at Nice in the French Riviera, Jarrad drove us into the country of Monaco were you have to apply to Prince Albert if you want to be a citizen. After dinner looking over the grand prix track he took us down the starting grid and for a spin around the track. Revving it up on the starting line to the sound of Formula 1 cars revving. He can do amazing things in that bus. We arrived at the Grand Casino Monte Carlo - the minimum bet was 5 Euro's ($10) so our money didnt last too long. We did have some big winners on tour though, and overall it was a good night!... read more

Europe » France » Rhône-Alpes » Lyon September 17th 2006

On our way to the French Riviera we spent one night in the wine region town of Lyon. We stopped at JC's winery and did some tastings. Kev really got into it! Tonight we had a traditional French Dinner. Yes, that involves French Onion Soup followed by Escargo (snails) and Frogs Legs. Suprisingly, they were quite nice. The frogs legs were a hit with most people on tour. ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris September 16th 2006

Well our first sights of France were beautiful. Last night we arrived in Paris and were treated with a surprise visit to go up the Eiffel Tower from Austin (our tour manager) and Jarrad (bus driver). We got the lift up the 324 metres to some fantastic views over Paris. Today we went to all the must do's of Paris! The Lourve (Mona Lisa), the Notre Dame Cathedral, Seine River, Arc De Triumph. The highlight would have been Jarrad launching us in a 50 seater bus onto a 6 lane round-a-bout around the Arc de Triumph playing Danger Zone from Top Gun over the speakers. The reason for the danger is that all the vehicles already on the round-a-bout have to give way to those coming on. So basically we stopped six lanes of traffic while ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London September 14th 2006

Hi Everyone. Got to Heathrow and got the tube to Russel Square. The standard of accommodation is a lot lower than what we have been in over the passed 2 weeks. But London is pretty cool. Today we got on the big red hop on-hop off bus and saw the sights of London. Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and then went on the London eye to see it all from the sky! Tonight we got to meet all our fellow Contiki travellers and everyone is pretty cool. We had dinner at the pub with a group and had some pint's of Carling beer! We are very excited about Contiki - looking forward to it!... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini September 11th 2006

The last 3 days have been spent in Santorini. Our hotel is beautiful. We can see the sunset from our 4 post bed and get served breakfast to our balcony every morning. I guess you could say we are living it up before we get to Contiki. We hired a quad bike and have been crusing the hills of Santorini. Yesterday we drove to Kamari Beach then Red Beach. Only just made it to a servo after driving for about 30 minutes with the petrol light flashing! Last night we drove around town and had dinner with some traditional Greek Music. Today we had a late start and then jumped back on our bike and headed for Perissa Beach. We ended up at the Taj Mahal Club on Perivolos Beach. We had sun beds with cushions ... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Mykonos September 7th 2006

What a beautiful place! Yesterday afternoon we arrived into great weather at Mykonos. Everything is so close so we walked in & out of the little alleyways for hours exploring. Dinner was by the water at sunset. The sun doesnt set until after 8pm so plenty of time to sunbake. Which is what we did all day today. We went to Paranga Beach (lots of boobs for Kev) and the occasional naked man or woman walking around. Don't worry we kept our clothes on! ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens September 5th 2006

After managing very well getting from the airport to the train (metro) station and into Athens city, getting a little lost and eventually arriving at our hotel we realised we were only a short walk to the Acropolis. So we went exploring and found great 360 degree views of Athens and great shots of the Acropolis and it's surroundings.... read more
