Hey everyone! so this one is going to be a short blog- i just wanted to send at least a few pictures and check in.....so right now i'm in mammoth- 902 miles under my legs so far- and feeling sore but in the best shape of my life! I'm staying at my friend Shannon's place in Mammoth- a Villanova softball teammate- so it's been awesome seeing her and having a home to relax in. We got through the end of the desert, with lucky cooler weather- had some awesome times at some trail angel's houses- the Saufleys and the Andersons- its amazing the way people open up their homes to you- and just the generosity people show hikers on the trail- gives you faith in humanity in a way ;) The last 2 weeks we've entered ... read more

Waking up as the sun rises, climbing out of our sleeping bags to start the new day. An energy bar for breakfast, packing up my gear for another full day of hiking- 20 miles is the usual goal, although the last leg we've been pushing ourselves, even got a 30 mile day in- which was more that my body was ready for really. Hitting the trail early in the AM most mornings-one foot in front of the other, moving north towards Canada. The simple, rythmic motion of hiking, poles in hands and pack strapped on our backs- an already reasuring feeling- being out on the trail. The meditative motion of hiking, of observing and being in nature- a calming, centered disposition prevails. Starting in Campo, right at the border of Mexico, Britt and I hiked into ... read more

So I thought I should finally write a little conclusion to this volume of blogs and to my last year of traveling....thanks to you guys that took the time to read them- I know they were lengthy- but the fact that many of you did become involved in my blogs- you were able to share with me part of my trip, and therefore learned something at the core of who I have become- and it really means a lot to me. This last year....has already started to settle as one of the most inspiring, opening, truth seeking years of my life. So many things that I learned and experienced- tasted, smelled, listened, laughed, cried, fell in love, danced, swam, trekked, swam with dolphins, jumped out of a plane, camped, played and learned music ;), and became ... read more

Fireflys In Flight Hundreds of fireflys looming overhead and in the distance. Dancing in the air, as the sun is setting over the Arabian Sea, a jungle lined shore, deep black rocks, pinks and purples stretching across the sky from the bright orange ball of a sun. Sitting on a cliff of a friends hut, overlooking the beach and ocean strectching out to the horizon of beautiful blues, while my friend Ralph plays the Hang, a unique, beautiful instruement, i think from switzerland; Deep vibrations penetrate my soul- rocks me on an emotional level... paradise... gazing at the fireflys hundreds of them flying overhead in the setting sun, gazing in a meditative like state, in bliss, so much love and appreciation for the moment, for the whole energy of the place- i instantly felt at ... read more

As I traveled back to Nepal, crossing the border from India I instantly felt a different feeling. Like going home. Nepal has turned into my home away from home. The comfort I feel there, hearing the language again, and just being back in the country puts a certain ease to my being and a huge smile on my face. Traveling back with Sara, a 24 hour ride hour ride on the local buses- not for the light hearted....quite the journey- but we finally arrived in Pokhara. My friend Kiran came down to meet us in Pokhara- so good to be back in Nepal and see old friends again!! A nice time, taking out a canoe, going to see some live shows, Sara and I rented a motorbike for an afternoon to go see a waterfall- i'm ... read more

A wonderful time in Varanasi, one of India's holiest cities. Full of the Indian culture - a drastic place, either people love Varanasi or hate it. I was happy to discover that Varanasi took me in and showed me the beauty of the city and its rich culture. The Ganga- a completely different river in Varanasi than it is in Rishikesh, but carries the same mystical energy- or maybe it's the people living near this holy river that bring on or add to the spiritual vibe. I was in Varanasi for the Durga festival- Durga is the Hindu goddess that fights against Mahesa Surya, the 'Buffalo Demon' which from my understanding encompasses all the evils in the world- the Durga goddess fights it all year, and the fesitival is to return her to the Ganges, because ... read more

The yoga month.....hmmmm wow, i've really fallen in love...with yoga...it's an amazing thing when you stretch and begin to learn more about your body- that your left shoulder is tighter than your right, for example, and then stretching through that and being able to go deeper into poses and see yourself become more flexible and begin to staighten out in a way. A spiritual and pilisophical aspect as well. Actually asanas (the yoga postures) are the smallest part of the book of yoga, i was told something like in the book of yoga sutras, it says you should take 3 years to master the asanas (yoga as we know it) and 7 years to master the pranayama (prana is the life breath, the universal energy, breathing excercises to help control your mind)- ive been learning a ... read more

After 2 weeks in Kashmir, the road to Leh was finally fixed and so I began my 18 hour- 2 day bus journey to Leh. A special bus ride- through the Himalayas, enetering the desert region of massive, barren mountains- a landscape I have never seen before. A dry, barren, mountanous region- looked as if we were passing through the moon. Amazing natural rock scultpures protruding from the hills- patches of lush, green valleys, where villages sprouted up over the years. Ancient stupas and gompas, where they have not yet been influenced by tourists and western ways- like looking back in time. Leh, in the Ladakh region- northeast of India- referred to as little tibet, since so many reguges reside here, the Tibetan culture ibeing the main influence in the area. The highest and in the ... read more

I flew into Dehli on a tuesday night and within 2 days found myself at the foothills of the Himalayas in Kashmir, in northern India. Escaping the sweltering heat of Dehli moving up north seemed to be the only resonable option. So I arrived in Kashmir and the next day I was off to start a 5 day trek. Ilan, an Israeli guy was also coming along for the trek- we had a little Kashmirian man, Abdul for our guide (an Indian version of my belgium father, Lode- for those who know him) and three gypsy pony men. Our little enterouge- of 5 little horses (that they call ponies) our gypsy men and our energetic, little guide. We stopped on our way out to the beginning of the trek to pick up two live chickens that ... read more
