Great blog Mike
We've decided we want to travel with you and the nomads the next time we go to India. Thanks for sharing.

Where to next...?
Thanks Dave and Merry Jo. It would be an honour to travel with you. I may not head back to India for two years (I have to eke out the pension), but I'm already thinking of possibly a bit of Gujarat, perhaps the Ganges, maybe the Himalayas. Then there are all my friends in Rajasthan... Oh dear, it's such a big country and there's so much...

TIBET IN EXILE
Having been to Tibet I can only imagine the home of the Dalai Lama in exile would be a dream destination. Lucky you are to have been there. does it have an Indian feel or is it overwhelmingly Tibetan?

Mcleod Ganj - Tibetan or Indian?
Well Dave, Mcleod Ganj does have an Indian feel about it - Indian people are still conspicuous, English is widely spoken, litter is evident, most hotels provide Indian food, and so on. At the same time, there are so many Tibetan refugees there (as well as the Dalai Lama, the temple complex, the monks and all the Tibetan goods on sale) that it can sometimes feel as though this isn't India at all! As you'll have seen, we immersed ourselves in the Tibetan bits though - and thoroughly enjoyed doing so.

Envious!
Fantastic read, clearly more experienced than I - some great info, thank you! Wish I was back there. Enjoy the rest of your travels... :)

A fantastic country...
Thanks Natalia. More experience? Well, yes - but I'm a lot older too! And, while I've been to many of the same places as you, it's clear that you saw things I haven't yet got around to - Mother Theresa's Sisters, bathing elephants, SISP and The Ark, to name but a few. But, as I always say, you have to leave something for next time... Enjoy Singapore and Australia.

In the village

The village girl
Yes, she was so natural and asked me to take her photo. I'm arranging to send a copy to her. It's one of my favourite pictures from our entire trip. Glad you like it too.

Driving the lonely highway
Just a few months ago we rode on that lonely highway. Coming from the U.S. where you'd never find a highway with so few automobiles it was odd. Looks like you are having a good time. Continue on.

The weird Yamuna Expressway
Thanks Dave. Yes, it was certainly weird - compared to every other road in India, this was ghostlike! We're now back home in good old Blighty and have been for a while, but there are still blogs to complete - another three or four at least! Watch this space...

A camel bus!

Camels, camels everywhere
I am impressed with the number of camels you have seen and photographed during your time in India. I spent almost three months there and never sighted a camel bus!

A camel bus!

A bus_y time in India
Thanks Shane. I may sometimes be disparaging about poor old camels, but I can never resist photographing them!

Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah

Whatever
Oh I know that technically speaking its not a masterpiece. But then again, I rarely look at things technically...

Lovely
This is a hard picture to get. Good job!

Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah

Technically, that photo isn't lovely!
You flatter me! I included it only because I thought someone might be curious about what's inside the Baby Taj. It's forbidden to photograph inside the Taj Mahal itself of course. This was a difficult shot - almost dark inside, bright sunlight outside. Technically, it's awful - hand-held 1/10th sec at f/4, blue reflection off the lens filter, burnt-out detail in the window, etc., etc.!

Mehtab Bagh

My favorite photo of the bunch - I like this this one seems to capture a natural, relaxed moment in the splendor of the gardens.

I concur.
My husband and I stayed at the Oberoi Amarvilas a couple years ago (an anniversary gift to ourselves). It was pretty flipping amazing to enjoy the view of the Taj from our balcony in the morning and the hotel is a site unto itself. But, when I take my kids back to Agra, we'll be staying at the N. Homestay. That was a splurge I don't need to repeat.

Birder's World and National Geographic will be calling you soon
You've really done a nice job capturing the birds, which is not always an easy tasks. Loved the photo of Janice heading to the park.

They'll make a birder out of me yet!
The 'Grey haired nomads' are great teachers but, until I can afford Swarovski binoculars like theirs, I'll have to rely on my camera and its telephoto lens...
9th April 2013

What brilliant photos throughout the blog and in your panoramas. I'm quickly getting hooked on your blogs!

Watch this space...
Thanks Michelle. There are some bloggers here who take truly world-class pictures. I just try to take photos that I'm not too ashamed to show others! As for panoramas, I love the super new system - why would anyone want just one panorama when you can have a dozen, eh?

Indian Roller in flight

High Flying Photos!
While your dubious ability to tell a Purple Swamphen from a White-eared Bulbul left me wondering about your birding prowess - come on, everyone knows that! ;) - you have redeemed yourself through photos. Great shot of the Indian Roller! What gorgeous plumage.

Indian Roller in flight

I'm a 'birder' in training!
All I can say is: the 'Grey haired nomads' are great teachers. As for the Indian Roller, it's a fleeting flash of colour and this is one of many shots - but the only one that's even remotely in focus!! I'm still learning...
