Hi!
I read with interest your comments about Ranthambore and the tigers. I have to admit, I am aware of the situation. Some people pay huge money, stay close to a week...and see no tiger. They seems to have other reserves in India with Tigers, but Ranthambore stay the best known...maybe thanks to a great Oberoi...but no tigers. I love safaris...but have decided not to put this one on top of my list of things to see....exactly because of what you are writting....now if people are birders...it's another thing! Great blog by the way!

The invisible tigers
It is such a great pity that an endangered species should be subjected to such neglect. Ranthambore could be, and should be, better managed. Birders are spoilt, however! And, if you like birds, just wait for my next blog - Keoladeo (Bharatpur) was just amazing - and I'm not even a birder!

Ranthambore - such a pity!
Thanks for your comments. I did try to be as fair as I could about what turned out to be a somewhat disappointing three days - fortunately brightened by birds outside of the reserve. Oh, and I have a better shot of an Indian Roller taken in Keoladeo, which I'll include in my next blog.

I intended to blog here on our south east Asia trip in 2009 but sadly didn't get around to it. I did write my own "offline" journal perhaps I'll convert to online one day.... I love reading blogs though, have been an avid armchair traveler for 6 years now....

It's never too late to convert that offline journal into a TravelBlog - just a Cut and Paste away! When I've finished this series, I'm telling the world about a trip to India in 1997 - using my wife's diary. All I have to do is find the photos I took at the time!

Not every day
Can't recall a photo of a camel pulling a cart so this is a beauty. As to salt...I recently discovered or realised that salt from different places tastes different to others. Maybe you could create a niche market outside India if the salt is delightfully tasty. You have not mentioned the taste...does it excite?

Ships of the desert - and salt
Camels are used quite a lot for pulling carts in Rajasthan - I'll try to include one or two pictures in later blogs. As for the salt, I sampled a wet fingertip of Sambhar and it tasted just like salt (alas!).

I feel very privileged to have met that boy all those years ago. As you rightly observe, India now has new meaning for me. I would happily live there - I'd just have to persuade my wife to like the spicy food, poverty, lack of hygiene, heat, monsoons... oh, and camels are not her favourites either!

Yes, camels are cantankerous, obstinate beasts with a confronting odour but camels are really adorable. I'm very impressed by the design on the winning camel. I'm seen such work before in Pushkar in India, but never to the high level you photographed. Might be worth a return trip to India just to attend the Nagaur Fair.

I guessed I'd hear from you! Camels,' adorable'? I'd say 'interesting' perhaps, particularly when they're wearing such fine coats. Before you go to Nagaur, remember to phone the number on that camel to make sure the designer will be there!
