SUZUKI HEAVEN or HELL ? I suppose it depends if you are a SUZUKI or its driver! Here at Mt Vernon station WA the little 413 Suzuki plays an important part of the station operations, from bore runs to mustering they get hell The main use is as a bull chaser , during mustering these little 4WDs take the place of horses or quads as they are one of the few means of transport that are nimble and strong enough for the conditions. As seen in the photos they are extensively barred up to cope with the animals and terrain, breakages are just part of life, all carry 2 spare tires on the back and a very simple jacking system, spares on board include springs , hoses, belts, drive shafts and if you don’t have it ... read more

Covered in mud and dust we arrived late afternoon in bustling Darwin and consequently had to try three campgrounds before finding two spare sites. Even with plenty of water, Murray refused to wash the vehicle. Our time in Darwin was quite social as we met Greg and Maureen Moir who were visiting their brand new granddaughter. After a chat over coffee in the city centre, they took us to a great camping shop. Murray was tempted to buy a new chair as his is almost falling apart, but he has repaired it instead. We agreed to meet Moirs at the renowned Darwin yacht club for dinner and watch the magnificent sunset from the alfresco tables but the town and restaurant were so busy it was closed. Not to be discouraged we walked fifty paces to the ... read more

At the end of May Murray and Dave finished their list of jobs and were ready for a well earned break. The water tower was raised successfully with a large audience which Murray could have done without. I think everyone just stopped working to watch! We took four days holiday at Gregory River and Lawn Hill National Park which is a very pretty place. As we are endeavouring to try new things Murray tried out his new fishing rod and caught sprats in the Gregory river. According to the experts it is too cold at the moment for barramundi. Dave had his first paddle in a canoe up the spectacular Gorge even negotiating small rapids. On the way we photographed tiny bright blue fish, blue butterflies and a fresh water crocodile. We returned to Mt. Isa ... read more

Blog. 1 We have been in Australia for a fortnight now . After a very hectic departure from New Zealand because of a last minute decision to vacate our rented house and squash our belongings in a container, we flew to Brisbane with our friends Dave and Kathy. We went to Maryborough while Dave and Kathy bought a camper trailer in Brisbane then met us at the “Riverbank Camp” in front of Vikki and Russ’s house. Most nights were very sociable with the neighbours, the family and another Kiwi couple camping there, We cooked on a huge Bar-b-cue over an open fire for 14 people some nights. We headed for Auburn River National Park where we had a swim, then it rained all night and our trailer canvas leaked like a sieve so we abandoned ship ... read more
