best blog ever Oh Julia, I think this was possibly your best post ever. I loved hearing about the kitchens and bathrooms. And your enthusiasm in Rome. And, of course, I am so proud of you that you have reached the status of translator with Italian! I hope you can study/or work in Italy sometime in your future. But not before you come home! AND I loved my mother's day greetings from you. What unexpected joy! That e-mail will be on my fridge for a long time, let me tell you! LOVE YOU BUNCHES xxoo Patti
I enjoyed your Italy post. It sounds like you are having fun there. My blog is looking for travel photos. If you have time, email us some at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com and check us out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com
Continued fun on your travels,
Eric
almond milk popsicles I read your whole post, but what jumps out to me? Almond milk popsicles! Yummmmmeeeee! Wish I could have one. With you. Love, Patti
orienteering I am not surprised you did well in orienteering, although winning it is impressive. May your sense of direction serve you well in the woods, and in life.
updates Hi Sweetie, This was a very nice blog. Thanks for all the updates. I'm looking forward to photos of your new home and new sisters. I've been working a lot so have just gotten to read this entry. Time is flying by. Hope to see you when you return. Oh, and Easter is in a few days. Are any of your families Catholic? Do you ever get to go to church services? Easter services should be interesting. Love you always, Patti
a quick hello I had a chance to catch up on your writing/blog (I'm sick and not at work!...so have time to catch up on home e-mail stuff)....sounds like a great time for you! All is well here - we are enjoying winter snow and fun, although my sinuses are unhappy today. bye sweetie - have fun and be safe. Aunt Marcy
The best one yet Julia, both on photos and text. I would love to hear more details on you doing the math problem. And one of these days please take a photo of "Pizza Americana".
lovely pix of Venice enjoyed your photos... they do tell a story! Joselyn and I will be in Venice for a week 16 - 22 maggio, at Venice Italian School.... we'll help pick up the left-over confetti all over the sidewalks. They do have sidewalks in Venice, right?
phantastic photos Thanks so much for getting these photos posted, Julia. The alps were so beautiful! And I loved the doors, too. And, of course, it's always fun to see the people around you. xxoo Patti
gogel-mogel Remind me what is that egg thing called in Italy? Incredibly, they do the same thing in Russia, and it has an improbable name of : gogel-mogel. At least that is what my Russian grandmother called it. World is weird.
Raw Eggs You be careful of raw eggs. I always wash the whole shell with soap and water before breaking them to make mayonnaise or Caesar dressing. Feliz Año Nuevo
great stuff Jewels - your entries are super - quit w/the apologies!!! & never mind about the spelling errors!! we all know who you inherited that from - UGH! I wish you were in Rome w/me now - I too am overwhelmed - awe struck and incredible lucky - mostly lucky for the wonderful kids I have!!!!!
LOVE YOU
thank you for sharing Thank you so much for the update. How marvelous everything sounds. That's Italy! And you are the perfect person to appreciate every minute of it. I'm so glad you got to see Florence. And both your host families have been so great in sharing their families and traditions with you. (And you have been so great to share them with us.)
Well, I just got back from three nights on the farm to recuperate from working. You know how much I love the sound of geese migrating overhead. It's such a wonderful time of year to be up there. And a friend from school came to help me plant 5 more fig trees and one more palm. We'll see if they make it. Now I have a few days off in Oakland before I start working again. I'm gardening, of course! Pruning. Digging up stuff. And lots of dreaming and planning and going through seed catalogues. Good fun. Love you bunches, Patti
long tme, no read, SORRIER! Hi Sweetie, Finally got to your blog. You know, Christmas and all. Donna came for eve and day of xmas and we put together a 750 piece puzzle! I guess I was practicing. The picture was of a box of chocolates so we were particularly inspired to finish it. We ate like pigs for a couple of days and now are preparing for a New Year's Eve stroll through the City this week. I had to work the day after xmas. It was a real bummer. In the morning, I was the only one working in the whole building! But on New Year's Day I am driving up to the farm to spend four days. A couple of folks may come to visit and we are going to plant another five fig trees.
I'm reading two biographies of Madame de Stael that Chuck gave me. What are you reading these days? Have you gone to the movies in Italy yet? Please send photos of your new host home when you can.
Well, that's about it for now. Off to work. Love you bunches, Patti
beautiful I think this may be your best blog entry yet. And it wasn't easy to top the description of your new shoes!
Love you, love you, love you!
And sorry to hear about Mimi. I'm assuming that was Nancy's mother? Very sad, I know. Best wishes to your mom.
Pacific Ocean Your buds (Kira and Anna are very involved) over here are trying to save a piece of the Pacific:

So happy you can speak Italian now! It does open that little piece of the world to you, doesn't it? I am so looking forward to hanging out in Italy with you.
Despite my objections to blogs for their narcissistic nature, I have decided to write one during my year as a foreign exchange student in Italy. I will update it maybe once a week, and that way I minimize my time spent sending informative emails, and I have a little public record of my trip. I hope it's entertaining!... full info

I really enjoyed reading this one Julia. Your writing has definitely improved. It has matured I suppose, as you have as well.
