El Zonte is so nice
I was born near El Zonte in La Perla which is like a few miles away and all my life I have been to El Salvador every year. It is so nice. The beaches are the best there and the locals treat Americans very nice. Plus, every year I go I see more and more americans in the beaches of La Libertad especially El Zonte. I would recommend it to anyone especially in July when there is surfing competition in Playa EL Obispo in the port of la libertad!

Cartagena
Hello Jo, We watched 'Romancing The Stone' on the telly the other night. It's set in Cartagena and other bits of Columbia. So now I have a good idea of where you were/are. Having watched the film though - can I just say - don't walk too close to the edges of muddy hillside dirt tracks in heavy rain!! I've checked out Catanga and Santa Marta on the net and they look lovely. Where are you going next? There's a lot of mountains behind you! Take care of that knee. xx

Mery Christmas
Hi Jo, Just to send some Christmas greetings and commiserations. I was so sorry to hear about your knee. I imagine the cast must be about to come off - much to your relief! Do take it steady for a while and make sure you do any physio and exercises your told to do -- it's important!!!! Things here are in the usual manic stage as we approach Christmas and I rather envy your situation with no pressures. We are also in the grip of dreadful foggy weather coupled with hard frosts. No fun for driving. I,m having a Christmas of work and little family contact. Penance of being a nurse. Paul and sheryl + bump are coming back next week for a couple of days so the 5 of us will have our family time then. Andy and Jane hope to move to there new home in Ipswich next month - everything very busy really. Anyway, I hope you have a great time in Columbia and hopefully a brilliant New Year of further exploration. Love from us all. Liz x x

We found El Salvador very safe and everybody was really friendly. There are loads of surfers about to to hang with. Look out for a place called Eldorado at El Zonte.

sounds like you had a good time
how safe was the area around El Zonte? I keep hearing about there being a lot of great surf areas in El Salvador but would like to know how relatively safe they are since they're in remote areas I'm assuming.

Congratulations
Hi Auntie Liz! Glad that my entries have made you feel better. I'm actually still recovering from a cold i picked up nearly 2 weeks ago, can't beleive it's so hot yet i've got a cold! It's these hostels we're staying at, lots of people seem to pass round bugs at them. Congratulations on Paul and Sheryl, that's fantastic news! Please pass on my congrats to both of theml too. So will there be a wedding soon also? Me going away seems to be the green light for quite a few weddings, 3 of my mates in less than 2 months wrote to me saying that they were now engaged! I've told them all they're not allowed to get married until i'm back! We're off to the twin volcanic island today in Lage de Nicaragua. Gonna stay there roughly a week and take some more Spanish lessons, we definately need them!! Good to hear from you and take care, Jo xx
